Description

Junior Piping/Structural/Vessel Designers are responsible for providing assistance in less complex aspects of the detailed drafting design of piping systems associated with process modules and equipment including 3D models and 2D drawings. This position interfaces with the respective drafting coordinator or technical lead as well as the respective project engineer and provides progress updates to the respective drafting manager.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Carries out original layout and design of process equipment modules for oil and gas processing facilities
  • Creates and models piping designs
  • Creates detailed design of structural steel skids and pipe supports
  • Revises existing designs based on vendor drawings and changes from stress analysis updates
  • Creates layout drawings and detailing of piping
  • Produces 3D models
  • Produces piping isometrics
  • Produces structural drawings
  • Produces fabrication drawings
  • Organizes design data and vendor information
  • Calculates piping components and pre-orders materials
  • Obtains and manages design specifics from Engineering and other disciplines
  • Collaborates with Piping Checkers, Mechanical Engineering, and Fabrication Shop

Prerequisites

Education

  • Diploma in Engineering Design Drafting Technology (EDDT) or an equivalent combination of training and experience in piping design

Experience

  • Entry level position - no previous work experience is required
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD 2010 and higher

Other

  • Fabrication shop designing experience is an asset
  • Understanding of design and drafting practices for piping components
  • Knowledge of Cadworx or Navisworks is an asset
