Position OverviewPower your future with Qualusin our T&D Canada business as a Lead Distribution Engineer. This opportunity is hybrid and can be based in Vancouver, BC (preferred), Calgary, AB, Saskatoon, SK, or Oakville, ON. This role is responsible for leading and supporting distribution electrical engineering projects, defining scopes of work, performing engineering calculations, and developing detailed design drawings. The engineer will oversee overhead and underground distribution projects from feasibility to construction and commissioning.ResponsibilitiesEngineer distribution electrical projects through the entire project lifecycle: from conceptual and feasibility, though detailed design, to construction and serviceLead or support overhead and underground distribution engineering projects defining scopes of work, completing cost estimates, performing engineering calculations, interconnection studies and developing detailed design drawingsSupport the preparation of technical specifications, tender documents, and technical reports.Provide construction support and overall project engineering coordination.Respond to information requests during construction and complete project documentation including preparation of record drawingsLead a team of engineers and designers to successfully deliver a portfolio of projectsMaintain and enhance relationships with other design disciplines and external stakeholders and assist team leads and managersMentor and guide junior staffTravel and visit project sites during design and constructionQualificationsBachelor’s degree in Electrical or Civil Engineering from a recognized universityProfessional Engineering Designation or eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer in the province of British Columbia5+ years of overhead and underground distribution engineering experience serving utilities in North AmericaKnowledge of CSA/IEC/NESC Standards and major utility standards (BC Hydro, Fortis, ENMAX, ATCO, SaskPower; more specifically BC Hydro project experience)Proficiency in electrical design, including selection and installation of conductors, insulators, switchgear, circuit breakers, and other distribution equipmentExperience with smart infrastructure equipment, such as automatic feeder switches, remote sensing switching, and capacitor banksStrong verbal and written communication skillsAbility to collaborate and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholdersAbility to apply sound engineering judgment to resolve technical issuesDemonstrated ability to take responsibility for high-profile projectsProven experience in leading a team of engineers and designers to deliver projectsValid driver’s license and clean driving recordPreferred ExperienceKnowledge of structural, civil, and geotechnical aspects of distribution engineeringExperience with PLS-CADD and/or Spida-Calc for overhead systems designExperience with interconnecting distributed energy resources (DERs) and performing interconnection studiesExperience in power system analysis (voltage drop, equipment loading, steady-state voltage rise, etc.) using CYME, ETAP, EasyPower, SKMExperience with substation and transmission projectsProficiency in AutoCAD and GIS applicationsExperience mentoring junior staff and leading the technical scope of small and large projectsExperience working in both Canada and the U.S. for local utility companiesBackground in a utility or consulting environment, managing multiple projects with competing prioritiesBenefits & CompensationQualus benefits offered include Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Short and Long-Term Disability, 401(k) match, Flexible Spending Accounts, EAP, Parental Leave, Paid time off, and Holidays, for those who qualify.The expected compensation range for this position is based upon several factors, including but not limited to education, qualifications, prior relevant work experience and work location.Company OverviewQualus is a leading pure‑play power solutions firm and innovator at the forefront of power infrastructure transformation, with differentiated capabilities across grid modernization, resiliency, security, and sustainability.
