Senior Electrical Lead Engineer – Projects Business Unit Wood is recruiting for a Senior Electrical Lead Engineer in our Projects Business Unit, located in the Montreal office. This hybrid role focuses on electrical engineering for Pulp & Paper and Oil & Gas projects across the Quebec region, supporting both greenfield and brownfield initiatives from conception through construction. Role Overview The Senior Electrical Lead Engineer will act as Professional of Record on projects, lead technical design and execution, coordinate across disciplines, and provide mentorship to junior team members. Responsibilities include preparing power system studies, developing design deliverables, managing construction packages, and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory requirements. Responsibilities Provide electrical engineering support for bio‑based industrial projects. Lead discipline scope on small projects and electrical packages on large projects. Act as the electrical Professional of Record on assigned projects. Coordinate design with other engineering disciplines. Develop design deliverables including single lines, layouts, schematics, grounding, cable routing, and equipment specifications. Prepare and conduct power system studies (arc flash, load flow, short circuit, protection coordination). Specify and evaluate major electrical equipment (switchgear, transformers, MCCs, VFDs, motors). Create construction packages, IFC drawings, material lists, and estimates. Identify scope and schedule changes and assist with change management. Conduct checking and independent review of discipline work. Provide mentorship to junior team members. Support construction and commissioning activities as needed. Qualifications Electrical Engineering degree from an accredited university. Bilingual in French and English. Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ); registration in other Canadian provinces is an asset. 10–15 years of relevant experience in analysis, design, specification, and procurement for pulp & paper and industrial process plant electrical distribution systems. Strong communication and problem‑solving skills. Ability to self‑manage and work effectively in a team setting. Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel up to 10 days per year. Must be legally authorized to work in Canada without sponsorship now or in the future. Knowledge and experience in electrical design and instrumentation/control (preferred). Experience with ETAP or other design software tools. Familiarity with electrical engineering database tools such as SmartPlant Electrical or Aveva Electrical.
