Transmission Line Designer

OverviewTransmission Line Designer position with Stantec. Work location options: Burnaby, Calgary, or Waterloo. You will join a transmission line engineering group and work on power line projects under guidance in a dynamic, collaborative environment with opportunities to learn and grow as a Transmission Line Engineer.ResponsibilitiesAssist the transmission team with engineering and design services of power transmission line projects from conceptual design through construction.Perform design and drafting following industry codes and client standards for overhead transmission projects.Perform route selection for overhead power lines.Conduct modeling and analysis of transmission line and structures in PLS-CADD utilizing LiDAR.Support project team in development of design documentation, plans and reports for relevant project design elements.Assist in the development of design deliverables through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats.Participate in site visits as required.Attend project coordination meetings and communicate with internal team members and/or external consultants.Capabilities and CredentialsFamiliarity with PLS-CADD software.Working knowledge of AutoCAD or MicroStation.Experience with GIS mapping is an asset.Familiar with North American overhead power line industry standards.Experience developing design drawings for transmission or distribution projects.Sound understanding of project management systems.Self-motivated with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.Strong time-management skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.Strong interest in developing new skills and career advancement.Strong communication and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and communicate project issues effectively.Education and ExperienceStructural, Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering degree from a recognized university.Registered with the relevant Engineering Provincial Association.Minimum 3 years of overhead power line (transmission or distribution) design and engineering experience within utilities, EPC, or consulting organizations.Important DetailsTypical office environment with a hybrid model of office and home work.
