The Registered Provisional Psychologist is committed to helping people experiencing homelessness or poverty transition towards maintain sustainable and healthy lifestyles through the provision of appropriate treatment and case management services. This includes services that are both inclusionary and flexible for individuals with mental illness, addictions or concurrent disorders (i.e. physical impairment and mental illness). The Registered Provisional Psychologist will primarily be working within a team environment to provide assessments to both children and adults for the FASD Clinic to enable appropriate provision of care and tailor interventions.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To meet the holistic needs of the client and to provide access to services and integration across the care continuum;
  • Establish and maintains relationships with, and consults with, clients and their families, colleagues, and the Indigenous community to provide appropriate treatment services based on best practices, client need, and a combination care practices and approaches as appropriate;
  • Performs mental health and addictions assessment and treatment; assertive case treatment planning; crisis intervention; consultation; and clinical education to provide, facilitate and coordinate client access to services;
  • Advocate for client as needed both to access resources within and outside the organization, continue to update resources for staff, clients and future students;
  • Provide a wide battery of assessments to both pediatric and adult populations including, but not limited to, developmental, psycho-educational, behavioral, etc.;
  • Prepare reports, as required and within assigned timelines;
  • Ensure tracking of statistics is completed as required;
  • Utilize both internal and external supports in order to ensure best practice is adhered;
  • Provide supervision and direction to clinical students;
  • Support the Clinical Supervisor with onboarding and training of new clinicians;
  • Respond to crisis and provide de-escalation support as needed;
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Master’s degree in Counselling or equivalent; active or eligible for registration with the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP), either provisionally or fully;
  • Knowledge of mental illness and treatment; substance abuse and addictions treatment; psychopharmacology (indications and side-effects); psychotherapeutic and counselling skills, with particular emphasis on evidence-based interventions with trauma and attachment disruption in populations who experience historical oppression;
  • Understanding of vulnerable populations, in particular those experiencing homelessness, and 1-2 years’ experience working in the field;
  • Familiarity with legislation and government policies and procedures that relate to the clientele;
  • Specialized training in psychological tests and assessments, with a declared competency in administration;
  • Work with adult populations; some pediatric work also preferred;
  • Working knowledge with MS Word

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • This position is part time, working 24 hours weekly. The schedule of hours will be decided upon by the Registered
  • Provisional Psychologist and the Clinical Supervisor and are subject to change;
  • Time in excess of regular working hours may be required on occasion;
  • Local travel to various Mustard Seed sites, client residencies, and external agencies will potentially be required;
  • Sitting, standing, walking, driving are required as part of this role;
  • Moderate mental effort required to successfully accomplish the essential job functions such as providing information, resolving discrepancies, and responding to highly intense situation, including traumatic events.
