OverviewPosition Summary: Reporting to the Senior Manager, Maintenance & Technical Services, the Chief Engineer will direct and coordinate the powerhouse/refrigeration staff in the day-to-day operation of the powerhouse equipment. They will also provide instructions on estimated labor, equipment requirements and materials. A chief engineer will approve most vendor and contractor agreements associated with the projects or plans. They will be involved in the projects from beginning to end.ResponsibilitiesManagement of Powerhouse and Refrigeration Department BudgetDocument and maintain standard operating procedures, user manuals and training materialsEnsure efficient operation of equipment and departmental servicesLead a staff of Power House and Refrigeration EmployeesAnalyze current and future opportunities for cost savingsEnsure compliance with HACCP regulationsEnsure compliance with various government regulations and maintain all relevant documentationProject management for operating improvements.Approve operator work orders and make sure that the work done by team members complies with applicable codes, building regulations and standard operation procedures.Assist with the operator budget and delegate workloads to their staffCollaborate with various third-party vendors or contractors in the development of products for their plans and project.Establish schedules and methods for providing maintenance and repair services; identify resource needs; review needs with appropriate management staff; allocate resources accordingly.Participate in the development of policies and procedures; make recommendations for changes and improvements to existing standards and procedures.Troubleshoot and maintain plant equipment, machinery and related facilities.Recommend and assist in the implementation of goals and objectives; implement approved policies and procedures.Perform the more technical and complex tasks of the work unit including recommended purchasing of all Engine Rooms and repair equipment and supplies.Train reporting staff on safety regulations and procedures.Respond to and maintain order in emergency situations.Communicate regularly on-site with Department Superintendent and their teams on the status of maintenance/project implementation and coordinate activities within to minimize any disruption to operations.Other duties as assigned.QualificationsStationary Engineer 3rd Class or Refrigeration operator Class B.Minimum 5 years of experience in a supervisory role.Experience in Engineering, management, computer software and continuous improvement are considered assetsDemonstrated problem solving, troubleshooting, analytical and multi-tasking skills.Must have computer skills for entering inventory records, Excel, Word, and Outlook.Ability to manage a team and worked on complex technical projects.Proven familiarity with building and infrastructure systems, equipment and comprehending blueprint instructions.#SMARKSofina Foods Inc. is committed to providing accessible employment practices that are in compliance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).
