OverviewTemporary 1.0 FTE Teacher Librarian & Literacy Support position at Vancouver Island West (School District 84).Effective September 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026. This is a temporary 1.0 FTE teaching position that may include prep coverage (0.5 FTE for the Teacher Librarian role and 0.5 FTE for Literacy Support).This role may be eligible for a pre-employment signing bonus of $10,000 in return for a successful candidate accepting a job offer for this position. School District 84 engages in preferential hiring of self-identified First Nations applicants in all positions in accordance with section 42 (Special Programs) of BC's Human Rights Code.ResponsibilitiesTeacher Librarian and Literacy Support for Kindergarten to Grade 7.Provide coaching and mentoring for instructional and assessment practices; support the development of 21st century literacies (including digital and information).Develop, evaluate and expand district resources and the online Destiny library system; be familiar with copyright and site licensing.Provide targeted, small group reading intervention for students requiring additional support; provide daily direct instruction and literacy intervention for identified students in 1:1 and small groups using evidence-based practices.Collaborate with classroom teachers to plan literacy instruction aligned with student needs; support data-driven planning and assessment.Integrate technology, information literacy, and evidence-based reading/writing instruction into the library program; select resources onsite and remote access.Act as a collaborative leader in the school, modeling and supporting the development of effective instructional practices and a high level of communication and flexibility.Address differentiated learning needs and advocate for First Nations students in alignment with district and school goals.Essential Qualifications – Teacher LibrarianBC Certified and qualified with a Master's Degree/Diploma in Teacher-Librarianship.Valid Class 5 BC driver's license.Successful experience in supporting individual student learning in a multi-grade classroom.Literacy Support Role – 0.5 FTECommit to improving student literacy; knowledge of current literacy practices, including reading intervention strategies, assessment and evaluation techniques, and literacy curriculum.Collaborate with classroom teachers and school teams to identify student needs, set targets, and enhance best practices for reading.Support collection and interpretation of assessment data to plan reading instruction; provide daily direct instruction and literacy intervention for identified students in 1-to-1 and small group settings.Work with teachers to plan literacy instruction that meets identified student needs; support Instructional Services with other duties as required.Essential Qualifications – Literacy SupportBachelor of Education degree with successful elementary teaching experience; a Master’s degree is an asset.Background and training in literacy, reading instruction, and literacy intervention; experience teaching K-7 with inclusive practices.Ability to work independently with general direction.How to ApplyThe District will only be accepting applications via the provided links.
