What you’ll be doing

You will lead a multi-skilled audit team for the Finance & Treasury portfolio and oversee large or complex audits throughout all phases, including planning, execution and reporting. Your responsibilities include all areas of Treasury (including, but not limited to, liquidity, asset-liability management, funds transfer pricing, and capital) and Finance, globally (Canada, Europe, Asia Pacific). You will also be assessing the quality of business processes, report any related internal control weaknesses, and advise auditees of best practices. You will work collaboratively with the other audit teams under the VP of Capital Markets, Finance, Treasury and Commercial Banking.

You will build and maintain strong professional relationships with business partners, internal colleagues and other internal and external stakeholders by providing trusted advice or assurance on governance, internal control and risk management activities. You will also be responsible for managing the team’s performance and development, monitoring of key business risks and regulatory requirements, project management and leading various continuous improvement initiatives.

How you’ll succeed

• Relationship management – Build and manage strong professional relationships with multiple auditee contacts, identify the type/level of desired relationship and develop plans to achieve the same.

• Leadership - Provide trusted and proactive advice to the audit team and business management on the design and operating effectiveness of processes and controls to ensure key risks and regulatory requirements relevant to the portfolio are being adequately managed. Coach and develop team members to build and maintain a collaborate team environment and ensure individual development goals are met.

• Audit planning – Support the Audit Executive in the development and communication of the division’s audit plan, prepare the overall audit plan for the broader team under the Audit Executive and coordinate planning efforts with other Senior Directors throughout the audit department to ensure all linkages have been properly identified and given due consideration in the audit plan.

• Project management - Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to lead risk-based audits, report audit results and perform continuous monitoring of management’s control environment. Champion the implementation of best practices throughout CIBC and keep abreast of regulatory developments and emerging issues affecting CIBC and Internal Audit. Effectively oversee the management of multiple audits and internal projects at different stages to ensure completion within prescribed timelines including managing deficiencies by reviewing the artifacts supporting the corrective action plans and assessing whether actions remediated the risks. Communicate regularly on progress and issues. Review audit work to ensure a high level of quality and compliance with audit standards.

• Communication - Demonstrate clear, concise and influential written and verbal communication skills when issuing audit reports, discussing audit findings, resolving conflicts or interacting with CIBC executives, regulators and external auditors. Develop strong internal and external relationships through ongoing communication on progress of engagements and providing advice on risk, control and regulatory matters.

Who you are

• You can demonstrate experience in 

  • Financial services sector for a minimum of 8 – 10 years with a focus on capital markets, risk management, treasury, finance and the related regulatory, control and operating environments.

  • You have a comprehensive knowledge of auditing practices, processes, standards, techniques, procedures and principles sufficient to interpret complex concepts, apply them and explain them to others.

  • Understanding Enterprise Data Governance Policies and processes and how they are effectively applied within Finance, Treasury, Capital Markets and Commercial banking.

  • Understanding of Data Management processes and end to end data architecture is preferable but not required.

• You’re a certified professional.  You have current accreditation and good standing with an auditing or accounting designation (CA, CPA, CIA, CMA, and CGA). 

• You have a degree  in business at the undergraduate or graduate level.
