Our Real Estate and Land Use Development Planning Department is currently seeking a municipal land use planner to join our dynamic team of professionals in our Toronto office.

The ideal candidate will be a confident, proactive, highly detailed oriented team player who possesses excellent organizational skills. Working in a dedicated team, including planners, clerks and lawyers.

Primary Tasks/Responsibilities:
  1. Coordinate and analyze development proposals, including conducting research and policy analysis;
  2. Prepare and submit land use planning applications, including reporting and documentation for municipal approval;
  3. Provide subject matter expertise related to land use planning;
  4. Understand and determine the applicability of relevant local, provincial and federal government regulations on an individual project basis;
  5. Day to day file management, including coordinating and communicating with lawyers and consultants, and on-going liaising with clients;
  6. Conduct due diligence reviews on corporate transactions involving real estate with respect to a property’s land use policy context, compliance with regulations and policies, and analysis of development or intensification potential;
  7. Manage projects and consultation with stakeholders and complete reporting for land use planning projects;
  8. Assist other department team members, including support with Local Planning Appeal Tribunals and in particular, the Ontario Land Tribunal, as required;
  9. Assist with special projects and assignments, as required.
Required Skills and Experience:

University education in Urban Planning

3-6+ years of municipal land use planning experience, including with development and approvals processes in Ontario in either the private or public sector, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience;

Must hold a valid Ontario driver’s license and have access to a vehicle;

Obtained or working towards obtaining full membership with the Ontario Professional Planners Institute/Canadian Institute of Planners is an asset.

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing;

Project confidence, professional and mature;

Ability to work outside of normal office hours, as needed.
