The employee exercises considerable independent judgment in dealing with technical work problems involving the maintenance, repair and installation of plumbing, irrigation, watermain and sanitary systems throughout City facilities, and may supervise the work of one or more subordinates engaged in less skilled tasks. The successful candidate also performs minor maintenance and repair tasks on heating equipment and may be called at any time for emergency response reasons. The work of this class is distinguished by the more advanced nature of the duties, wider latitude in the use of independent judgement and supervisory responsibility. Responsibilities Maintain, repair, and install plumbing, irrigation, watermain, and sanitary systems throughout City facilities. Supervise the work of one or more individuals engaged in less complex plumbing tasks. Perform minor maintenance and repair on heating equipment. Coordinate with a City Plumbing Inspector for inspection of installation work as required. Respond to emergency calls at any time. Use blueprints, sketches, rough drafts and oral/written instructions to complete assignments. Maintain records, estimate materials, requisition parts, and use innovative techniques to improve quality and reduce costs. Qualifications Completion of Grade 12 and a recognized Trade Certificate of Qualification, or equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable general experience at the Journeyperson level. Thorough knowledge of standard practices, methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the plumbing trade. Knowledge of hazards, safety precautions, City Plumbing regulations and standards. Ability to work from blueprints, sketches, rough drafts and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to assign and supervise the work of one or more individuals engaged in less complex plumbing tasks. Ability to maintain simple records, estimate materials required, requisition parts and materials, and use best practices. Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia, BC Class B Level Gas Fitters Licence, and BCWWA Cross Connection Certificate required.
