Role and Facility Information We are seeking Emergency Medicine Physicians and locums for up to 30 available shifts per month at the Saanich Peninsula Hospital (SPH) Emergency Medicine Department. SPH is a 65‑bed acute care community hospital with an 18‑bed Emergency Department that treats approximately 31,000 patients annually, serving both pediatric and adult populations. The ED is staffed by 16 full‑time and part‑time emergency physicians, scheduled over 5 shifts per day with 12‑hour double coverage. Internists, general surgeons, infectious disease specialists, palliative care physicians, anesthesiologists, and community specialists are available during daytime hours, with tertiary care consultants within 30 minutes at Victoria General Hospital and Royal Jubilee Hospital. Hospital laboratory services operate 24/7 and imaging—including a CT scanner—is available from 07:30 to 24:00 daily with on‑call overnight coverage. Physicians must be comfortable in a single‑coverage department without on‑site respiratory therapy or ICU support and should be ready to address crisis call‑in volume and acuity demands. The successful candidates will benefit from flexible scheduling and a quality lifestyle on beautiful Vancouver Island. Responsibilities Provide emergency medical care to both pediatric and adult patients. Work single coverage in a community hospital setting. Respond to crisis call‑in volume and acuity work. Collaborate with internal medicine, general surgery, infectious diseases, palliative care, anesthesiology, and community specialists. Participate in teaching opportunities for medical students and residents via the University of British Columbia’s Island Medical Program. Qualifications Eligible for CCFP-EM or FRCPC Emergency Medicine. Eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC. Community hospital ED experience. Flexibility in scheduling and availability to fill crisis call‑in work. Preferably CPSBC USA certified registration. Additional Information Located north of Victoria within the territories of the Tsartlip, Pauquachin, Tsawout, Tseycum First Nations and the municipalities of Central and North Saanich, and the City of Sidney. The Saanich Peninsula offers a mix of rural, urban, and farming communities with extensive outdoor recreation and quick access to Swartz Bay Ferry Terminal and Victoria International Airport.
