POSITION SUMMARY Under the general supervision of the Supervisor and the direction of the Therapeutic Recreationist on duty, participates in the facilitation programs and activities for the residents. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES Assist Therapeutic Recreationist with activities. Assist with porting residents to and from recreation programs. Provide meaningful, purposeful, individualized programming to residents. QUALIFICATIONS Education/Experience Must be a secondary school graduate and have completed at a minimum of the first year of the Recreation Therapy, Gerontology or Outdoor Recreation at college or university and continue to be enrolled in either of these programs. Skills & Abilities Must be able to work with minimal supervision. Must be highly motivated and able to work well with the multidisciplinary team. Ability to communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and written. Must have superior customer service skills, with the ability to deal with the public and staff in a courteous and tactful manner. A genuine interest and understanding of the needs of the elderly. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Must be able to push wheelchairs and stand for 1 hour. Must be able to assist ambulatory residents to sit and stand. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT Must undergo a successful Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC). Must provide proof of full COVID-19 vaccination at point of conditional offer Must have successfully undergone a “two step” tuberculosis skin test. Successful completion of the Safe Food Handler training program as mandated by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.
