OverviewLiving Spring Medical Clinic in Yorkton, SK, is seeking a Temporary Full-time Pharmacist. Reporting to the Physician Leads, the Pharmacist will be responsible for appropriate management, dispensing, and monitoring of medications while collaborating closely with physicians, nurses, allied health professionals, and external health system partners. This position may be offered on a temporary full-time or part-time basis and requires flexibility to meet operational and patient care needs. If you have a current practicing membership, or eligibility for registration and membership, with the Saskatchewan College of Pharmacy Professionals (SCPP), then this job is for you This position is part of a newly developed Innovation Fund between the Saskatchewan Government and medical clinics in Saskatchewan; therefore, this position is temporary until March 31, 2027, with the possibility of extension.
ResponsibilitiesReview, interpret, and verify medication orders to ensure appropriateness, safety, and therapeutic effectiveness. Provide direct patient counselling on prescription and non-prescription medications, including dosage, administration, side effects, interactions, and adherence strategies. Conduct medication reviews and assessments, identifying potential drug therapy problems and recommending evidence-based solutions. Provide clinical consultation and drug information to physicians, nurses, and other allied health professionals.
Participate in interdisciplinary care planning to improve patient outcomes and continuity of care. Monitor patient response to drug therapy and document clinical interventions as required. Oversee the acquisition, preparation, storage, dispensing, and distribution of pharmaceuticals in accordance with applicable legislation, standards, and clinic policies. Ensure safe, accurate, and timely dispensing of medications.
Maintain appropriate inventory levels, including ordering, receiving, storage, and expiry-date monitoring. Ensure proper handling, documentation, and control of narcotics, controlled drugs, and targeted substances. Promote cost-effective and economical use of medications without compromising patient safety or quality of care. Ensure pharmacy services comply with federal and provincial legislation, Saskatchewan College of Pharmacy Professionals (SCPP) standards, and other applicable professional guidelines.
Assist in the development, implementation, and review of pharmacy-related policies, procedures, and workflows. Participate in quality improvement initiatives, audits, and risk management activities related to medication safety. Maintain accurate records, documentation, and reporting as required by regulatory bodies and clinic policies. Provide functional direction and professional guidance to Pharmacy Technicians and support staff regarding technical and operational pharmacy services.
Foster a collaborative, respectful, and team-oriented work environment. Maintain frequent and effective communication with nursing and medical staff. Consult with the Manager or Clinic Leadership when pharmacy activities may impact other departments or patient services. Maintain professional competence through continuing education and adherence to best practices.
Perform other related duties as assigned to support clinic operations. QualificationsEntry-level Degree in Pharmacy (Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or entry-level PharmD). Current practicing membership, or eligibility for registration and membership, with the Saskatchewan College of Pharmacy Professionals (SCPP). Strong interpersonal skills with a focus on providing exceptional patient service.
Strong clinical knowledge and sound professional judgment in pharmacy practice. Proficiency in a wide range of computer applications and pharmacy systems. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to work flexible hours to meet clinic and patient care needs.
Valid Saskatchewan drivers license and ability to travel as required. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented clinic. CPR certification (Basic Life Support – BLS) is considered an asset. Previous experience in a family medicine or interdisciplinary primary care clinic is preferred.
