Financing, Agriculture Commercial BankingPurpose: Leads and oversees a Canadian Commercial Banking Agricultural Banking’s national crop input financing business in Canada. The successful candidate will be responsible for obtaining revenue objectives, managing within the Bank’s risk appetite, relationship oversight, and process governance related to the Ag Bank’s crop input financing business by providing strategic direction, leadership, and oversight for the Indirect Ag Financing team within Agriculture Banking.AccountabilitiesDevelops sales management strategies and leads the implementation of tactical plans for the Yield More Financing team, to support the Canadian Commercial Banking & Agriculture Banking strategy and business objectives by:Leading the sales effort to achieve the overall profit plan goalsReviewing input from a variety of sources including the field, team members, customers, competitive intelligence, etc. (driven by marketing segmentation and portfolio management).Conceptualizing objectives and prioritizing initiatives.Anticipating and planning for potential risks and opportunities.Obtaining input from Relationship and Support team members and/or other stakeholders to ensure successful implementation.Deploying/engaging resources to support the strategies.Motivating and focusing the efforts of the Relationship and Support team members.Resolving issues/negotiating compromises between team members and partners from other Scotiabank Groups to meet objectives/overcome obstacles, guiding team members to alternatives if required.Acting decisively to move things forward in a timely manner.Escalating issues/obstacles/trends to the regional Vice President, Canadian Commercial Banking with recommendations/solutions.Allocates prospects and other business opportunities amongst the team.Builds a High-performance Environment And Implements a People Strategy That Attracts, Retains, Develops And Motivates Their Team By Fostering An Inclusive Work Environment And Using a Coaching Mindset And Behaviours; Communicating Vision/values/business Strategy; And, Managing Succession And Development Planning For The Team By:Leading, coaching, guiding, and motivating the team to exceed contributions toward defined goals, and ensure collaborative relationships with partner teams.Fostering and developing a strong, positive team environment, driving employee empowerment, belonging, and engagementAttracting and retaining top talent including effectively developing staff to meet operational needs of Commercial and longer-term requirements of the Bank.Exhibiting an ability to listen, negotiate and communicate goals.Sharing knowledge, experience, best practices, and responsibility with employees to drive the highest standards of professionalism.Establishing & monitoring performance objectives and measures, and providing timely performance feedback with regards to roles, tasks, and expectationsConduct effective performance assessments and make sound recommendations for career development and that employee development is a priority for all employees on the team.Regularly scheduling one-on-one coaching with direct reportsIdentifying and supporting training and developmental needs of team membersManaging staffing requirements and departmental workloadsUnderstand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.Develops sales management strategies and leads the implementation of tactical plans for the assigned geographic area, to support the Canadian Commercial Banking strategy and business objectives.Creates an environment in which their team pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.Oversight and collaboration on larger, more complex relationships, particularly at the Input Dealer level.Oversight of collections activities within the broader IAF team and strategic partners.Oversight of delegated credit decisioning authorities and risk outcomes.Responsibility for the unit’s policies, processes, and operational handbook and execution of responsibilities falls within the Bank and unit’s risk appetite including but not limited to: credit risk, AML/ATF & fraud risk, reputational risk, operating risk, and financial risk.Maintains a high market profile within the assigned market area with both internal and external contacts.Maintain a current knowledge of the Bank’s loan policies, economic and business trends.Develop IAF’s strategy and tactical plans and execution of the same within the broader context of Agriculture and Commercial Banking.Developing and maintaining a full knowledge and understanding of Nutrien Ag Solutions products and services, coupled with a thorough understanding of Nutrien Ag Solutions Canada’s retail strategy and annual objectives.Active member of the Nutrien Ag Solutions-Bank of Nova Scotia Input Financing Steering Committee.Contribute to the development of Agriculture banking as a senior leader and advisor by providing insight to the strategy and tactics to assist in Agriculture achieving its goals.Establishing and monitoring team goals.Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.Creates an environment in which their team pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.Builds a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops, and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviours; communicating vison/values/business strategy; and managing succession and development planning for the team.DimensionsClients serviced are across Canada and generally within the Prairie/ Ontario region, with potential operations across other geographies.One unit focuses on providing the Bank’s in-hour crop input financing, leveraging primary producers, input dealers, the team and Agriculture Banking to drive growth.The other unit is delivered in collaboration with Nutrien Ag Solutions in exclusively servicing their Prairie customer base and requires tact, influencing, and diplomacy to ensure the Bank’s objectives, risk appetite, and policies are maintained while supporting Nutrien Ag Solutions Canadian retail business.Interact with internal partners including: Global Risk Management, Retail Business Banking Operations, Global Banking Markets, Anti-Money Laundering Risk Management, Business Banking Technology, Marketing, Legal, and the Canadian Commercial Banking Executive Office.Provide service consistent with Scotia Service Standards, Complaint Resolution Standards and Procedures; promote sale of bank products and drive Agriculture Banking results.Environment is fast paced and demanding; priorities may be re-adjusted to accommodate urgent requests.EducationA degree in Business or Economics is requiredCFA designation considered an assetSkills/Work ExperienceMust have at least 10+ years of banking or similar relevant experience.Deep understanding of finance with strong business strategy perspective.Expert knowledge of Canada’s financial services marketplace and the assigned market area’s industries, customers, and competitive positioning.Ability to understand external organizations’ strategy and how the Ag Bank can support their goals.Solid understanding of Canadian Commercial Banking objectives, strategies, and structures; tactical planning and management skills.Expert sales management, coaching, relationship building and leadership skills; ability to influence and motivate.Strong customer-service orientation; familiarity with financial analysis, risk assessment, credit judgment and lending policies; adherence to KYC, AML/ATF policies.Expert influencing and stakeholder abilities.Strong interpersonal skills for business development and team environment.Ability to articulate views to all levels within Bank and externally.Decision-making under uncertainty with clear rationale.Strong PC skills; experience with word processing, spreadsheets, planning tools for documents, monitoring results, and inquiries.Knowledge of Canadian Commercial Banking products, systems, procedures.Thorough knowledge of lending and deposit products, customer profitability model.Thorough knowledge of risk appetite, risk management, AML/ATF regulations.Expert interviewing, solicitation, and business development.Knowledge of commercial management platforms;
