Senior Project Manager - Energy Product Testing & Certification, Coquitlam, BC Intertek, a Nationally Recognized Testing Lab (NRTL) and leading provider of quality and safety solutions to many of the world’s leading brands and companies, is actively seeking a Senior Project Manager to join our Electrical team in Coquitlam, BC, to help grow Intertek’s Energy business in North America and facilitate international trade and regulatory product testing on the Electrical Team. The Senior Project Manager - Energy will perform testing, inspection, and certification of projects in North America. This role is responsible for independently performing testing and evaluation on a variety of products to the provisions of U.S., Canadian and other international product safety standards; writing reports; and communicating with clients. The Senior Project Manager provides local expertise in one or more product categories and mentors/trains other personnel. Applicants must reside in and be able to legally work in Canada. What You’ll Do Read and determine applicability of national codes and standards clauses for the EUT (equipment under test). Validate the project scope and sample applicability. Develop, set-up and follow established test plans, including performing all required testing of product in accordance with the identified standards and established test plan. Conduct thorough Preliminary Design Reviews (PDR), construction review, compile and document results. Perform certification and testing work including but not limited to Batteries, BESS (Battery Energy Storage Systems), Combiner Boxes, On Grid & Off-Grid Inverters, DC-DC Converters, PV Modules. Perform testing of products in accordance with standards; core tests may include Battery Cycling, Temperature/Humidity soak or cycle, durability cycling, Voltage and Current measurement, dielectric, pressure, abnormal and fault condition simulation, rain, dust, and corrosion. Independently conduct on- and off-site testing and evaluation of products to determine compliance with applicable standards. Provide ongoing support and guidance on technical issues, test procedures, and standards interpretations. Research new standards, technologies, and trends in the industry. Represent Intertek on technical committees, code panels and/or associations. Provide ongoing sales support, including attending client meetings, project scoping and quoting. Communicate project status and test results to client, sales personnel, and management throughout testing. Within policy guidelines, identify, properly document, and document engineering judgments. Perform field labeling jobs. Mentor less senior personnel and demonstrate strong product/standards knowledge to be considered an expert in multiple product categories for the local office. Minimum Requirements & Qualifications Bachelor of Science, Technology, or similar degree with focus on electrical circuits, renewable energy preferred, OR the equivalent in terms of education, experience and/or training (10+ years). 7+ years of direct regulatory and compliance experience, specifically dealing with the NRTL and certification process. Prior project management experience. Advanced experience with U.S., Canadian, and other international product safety standards (e.g., ANSI, CSA, UL, EN, IEC). Experience and qualifications with quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001, ISO 17025, etc.). Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to make technical decisions and engineering judgments independently where limited standardization exists. Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment with shifting priorities and deadlines. Detail-oriented with strong time management and prioritization skills. Effective verbal, written, and presentation communication skills. Must possess fundamental technical and administrative skills to perform the job duties. Customer-focused and quality-driven. Travel up to 50% as business dictates. A valid driver’s license and reliable driving record. Applicants must reside in and be able to legally work in Canada. Preferred Requirements & Qualifications Direct experience in renewable energy field. Direct knowledge of US, Canadian, and other international product safety standards such as UL 9540/9540A, UL 508A, UL 1741, UL 3141, UL 1973, UL 1703, PV Trackers - UL 3703 (ANSI, CSA, UL, EN, IEC). Familiar with UL 1998, UL 991, and/or UL 60730 standards. Familiar with advanced utility-interactive inverters and/or power conversion equipment and support compliance with UL 1741 standards. Familiarity with other product standards as an asset (e.g., UL/CSA 61010). Salary & Benefits Information The base wage or salary range for this position is $100K - $140K. Individual compensation packages are based on a variety of factors including skill set, experience, qualifications, and other job-related reasons.
