Senior Software Engineer - SRE, Backend (Reliability Engineering)Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly, giving consumers the flexibility to buy now and pay later without any hidden fees or compounding interest.ResponsibilitiesSite Reliability Engineering at Affirm to help engineering partners operate what they own, defining frameworks and best practices for operating applications, building tooling, and providing training and consulting.Provide data and visibility on application performance to teams and leadership.Guide the development of SLOs and drive Incident Management and Analysis processes.Lead the implementation of Change Management and Deployment practices.Engage in service and architectural conversations and recommend observability and alerting configurations.What You’ll DoOwn and deliver quarterly goals for your team, guiding engineers through ambiguity and ensuring support throughout delivery.Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics to ideate, articulate constraints, and make decisions considering risks and trade-offs.Identify and lead solutions for project, process, technology, or business issues.Support operations and availability of your team’s artifacts by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating when needed, and supporting on-call efforts.Foster a culture of quality and ownership by setting or improving code review and design standards, and advocating beyond your team through writing and tech talks.Develop talent on your team by providing feedback and guidance and leading by example.What We Look For4+ years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using languages like Python or Kotlin.Track record of developing highly available distributed systems using technologies like AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.4+ years working in a Site Reliability or Production Engineering team.Curiosity with empathy and strong opinions loosely held.Experience defining a technical plan for the delivery of a significant feature or system component with an elegant, simple, and extensible design; ability to write high-quality code that is easily understood and used by others.Proficiency in making significant changes in a large code base and developing a suite of tools and practices to do so safely.Demonstrated ownership of personal growth, proactively seeking feedback from team, manager, and stakeholders.Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration with a global engineering team.Compensation and BenefitsBase pay range: $150,000 - $200,000 per year.Equity Grade: 6.Competitive benefits including 100% subsidized medical coverage, dental and vision for you and dependents, flexible spending wallets, vacation and holiday time off, and an employee stock purchase plan (ESPP).Affirm is remote-first.
