Role OverviewUltra Maritime is seeking a highly experienced and motivated Senior Project Engineer to guide the development of advanced Anti‑Submarine Warfare (ASW) systems for the naval market. This is a strategic leadership role within major defense programs, offering the opportunity to lead large, interdisciplinary engineering teams and deliver complex, mission‑critical systems.Nationality RequirementsCandidates must be eligible to obtain the relevant security clearance required for the role, due to the nature of the programmes we deliver for our customers.Job DescriptionAs the Senior Project Engineer, you will be the technical owner of assigned projects, responsible for delivering engineering commitments to the customer. You will lead technical planning, execution, and risk management, while mentoring engineers and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders to ensure successful outcomes.Key ResponsibilitiesOwn and manage engineering work packages / control accounts across the full project lifecycleLead technical discussions with customers and internal teamsOversee all project engineering work packages, leading the team and work package owners to ensure timely delivery and quality of engineering outputsAccountable for engineering team performance in meeting schedules and achieving key milestones within the defined scopeWorks closely with Program Manager, System Design Authority, and Subsystem Leads to resolve technical, program, and resource issuesDrive resolution of technical challenges through root cause analysis and corrective actionsEnsure compliance with safety, quality, and design standardsDefine and manage integration, verification, and validation strategiesBuild and maintain engineering staffing plans to ensure appropriate skills and capacityOversee a team of up to 50+ engineering resourcesDevelop and maintain engineering plans, schedules, and proceduresMonitor performance and take proactive action to resolve issuesManage technical documentation including compliance matrices and requirement definitionsAct as the primary engineering liaison between technical teams, program management, operations, and supply chainProvide timely and accurate reporting to leadership and customersLead internal and external design reviews and support programmatic reviewsContribute to internal R&D and process improvement initiativesImplement lessons learned and best practices across the engineering teamSkills, Qualifications & ExperienceBachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Science, Acoustic Engineering, or related field10+ years of engineering experience, with 5+ years in technical leadership rolesProven experience leading large interdisciplinary teams and delivering complex systemsStrong understanding of systems engineering and sonar technologiesExperience across the full project lifecycle in the defence industryFamiliarity with Earned Value Management (EVMS), Control Account Management (CAM), and Microsoft Project desiredAbility to make informed decisions on scope, schedule, cost management, quality, and efficiencySkilled in motivating teams, managing stakeholders, and influencing outcomes without relying on authorityProfessional Engineer (PEng) preferredCapable of acquiring a NATO security clearance and a Canadian Controlled Goods assessmentPersonal AttributesExcellent communicator with the ability to present complex technical information clearlyProactive, collaborative team player with strong leadership and mentoring skillsHighly organized with strong analytical and problem‑solving abilitiesStable under pressure and able to manage multiple priorities effectivelyDemonstrates initiative and drives results through influence and strategic thinkingTravelThis role is primarily based at Ultra Maritime’s Dartmouth site, with occasional travel within Canada/USA and Europe.Diverse & Inclusive EmployerUltra Maritime is an equal opportunities employer that values diversity, inclusion, equity and equality.
