Position Overview The Controller plays a pivotal role in ensuring the integrity, transparency, and efficiency of Brandon University’s financial operations. Reporting to the Director of Finance & Registration Services, this position oversees all core accounting functions—including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger—while leading audit preparation, multi-entity financial statement reporting, and compliance initiatives. The Controller provides strategic leadership in system automation and process improvements, fostering operational excellence and supporting institutional priorities. Key Responsibilities (approximate time allocation) Accounting Operations (30%) Oversee day-to-day accounting processes, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely month-end closures.Implement robust internal controls and manage relationships with financial institutions. Financial Statements & Audit (20%) Lead preparation of multi-entity financial statements and coordinate external audits.Ensure adherence to accounting standards and regulatory requirements. Institutional Reporting (10%) Support provincial, CAUBO, and pension reporting, and validate reports prepared by team members. Leadership & Team Development (10%) Mentor and manage accounting staff, fostering a culture of professional excellence and continuous improvement. Policy & Business Operations (15%) Develop and maintain financial policies and procedures in alignment with governance and regulations. System Implementation & Automation (15%) Drive system upgrades and automation projects, ensuring data integrity and stakeholder engagement during transitions. Qualifications CPA designation required; degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline.Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in accounting or financial management, including supervisory roles.Strong knowledge of financial reporting, audit coordination, and regulatory compliance.Proven leadership and change management skills.Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving abilities. Managers & Professional Officers MPO-VI: $101,175 annually.
