Anthropology & Archaeology – Assistant Professor (Digital Heritage) Affiliation: University of Calgary, Canada Position Description Full‑time, tenure‑track Assistant Professor position in Digital Heritage. We seek a scholar whose research and teaching engage digital methods and ethics in heritage across archaeology and social and cultural anthropology. We welcome applicants who advance collaborative, community‑engaged, and public‑facing work, such as LiDAR/remote sensing, digital repatriation, community archives, digital storytelling, co‑created exhibits, GLAM partnerships, and who address equity, data governance, and long‑term stewardship in culturally responsive ways. Our department is advancing the University of Calgary’s strategic plan, Ahead of Tomorrow, by contributing to the “Digital Worlds” research area of focus, which seeks to understand data and human connection through transdisciplinary approaches. Possible areas of focus Archaeology and heritage approaches such as LiDAR and photogrammetry, remote sensing and GIS, 3D reconstruction and visualization, VR/AR/XR applications for heritage interpretation, digital field data capture and curation, heritage informatics, collections digitization, heritage risk and vulnerability modeling, and digital public archaeology. Social and cultural anthropology, including critical curatorial and museum‑based approaches to digital technologies, community memory and digital technologies, digital ethnographies of heritage platforms and publics, community‑integrated digital heritage initiatives, digital data governance and policy, ethical data lifecycles involving metadata, access, consent, and reuse, and the study of AI and online networks as they intersect with heritage. Expertise aligned with Indigenous data sovereignty and frameworks such as OCAP®, CARE, and FAIR, and community‑controlled access such as Local Contexts. Qualifications Ph.D. in Anthropology or Archaeology, or a closely related discipline, a strong research record, and teaching experience. Record of community‑based, collaborative projects with Indigenous Nations, local communities, museums, archives, and heritage agencies. Evidence of transdisciplinary collaboration and program building, including digital heritage labs, field schools, GLAM partnerships, and experience with ethical, policy, and sovereignty frameworks (OCAP®, CARE, FAIR) and familiarity with Local Contexts TK/BC Labels.
