The Assistant Controller plays a crucial role in the accounting and finance department of this growing E & P company, assisting a well-respected and exceptionally bright Controller in overseeing financial reporting, accounting operations, and internal controls.
This position involves managing a small team of accounting professionals and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting:
- Assist in the preparation and review of financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and regulatory standards
- Coordinate with external auditors during quarterly reviews and annual audits, providing necessary documentation and support
- Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger entries, and payroll processing
- Ensure timely and accurate recording of financial transactions and adherence to internal accounting policies and procedures
- Supervise month-end and year-end closing processes, reconciliations, and financial analysis
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls to safeguard company assets and prevent fraud
- Monitor changes in accounting regulations and implement necessary updates to accounting policies and procedures
- Conduct periodic reviews and audits to assess compliance with internal controls and regulatory standards
- Lead and mentor a small team of accounting professionals, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback
- Assign tasks and responsibilities, prioritize workloads, and ensure timely completion of deliverables
- Foster a collaborative and supportive work environment that promotes professional growth and development
- Assist in financial analysis, variance analysis, and budgeting processes to support decision-making and strategic planning
- Provide insights and recommendations to management based on financial data and performance metrics
- Participate in special projects, such as system implementations, process improvements, and M&A activities, as needed
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve project objectives and deliver results within established timelines
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field
- CPA designation preferred
- Previous experience in accounting and finance roles, with at least 5 years of progressive experience, preferably in the oil and gas industry
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting requirements, and internal controls frameworks
- Experience with ERP systems and proficiency in MS Excel
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Leadership skills and experience managing a team of accounting professionals
- Base salary ideally in the $120,000 to $140,000 range
