Overview Located in downtown Toronto, the Department of Physics at Toronto Metropolitan University invites applications for a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair position in AI‑driven Medical Imaging. Conditional on a successful CRC application, the candidate will be appointed to a tenure‑track position at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor, effective July 1, 2027. The Canada Research Chairs Program is federally funded to attract and retain leading researchers. The successful candidate will develop the CRC application for the April 21, 2026 deadline. The CRC Tier 1 appointment is tenable for seven years and renewable once. Responsibilities Engage in a combination of research, teaching, and service duties and maintain an inclusive, equitable, and collegial work environment. Develop and maintain a strong, independent, externally funded research program that is internationally recognized and leads in the field of AI‑driven medical imaging. Mentor diverse trainees, students, future researchers, and colleagues through workshops, co‑authoring papers, obtaining patents, and contributing to public policy and professional practice. Effectively teach undergraduate and graduate courses and engage in collegial service. Develop and submit the CRC application by the April 21, 2026 deadline and collaborate with TMU’s research partners. Qualifications Ph.D. or terminal degree in Medical Physics, Physics, or a related discipline. Full professor or associate professor expected to attain full professor rank within one or two years of nomination; or equivalent experience from outside academia. Outstanding world‑class researcher whose accomplishments have made a major impact, with a record of internationally recognized leadership, high‑quality publications, patents, and contributions to policy and practice. Proven ability to attract and supervise graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, and to attract high‑level external funding (Tri‑Council and other sources). Strong record of successful research collaborations and the ability to establish an independent, highly productive program. Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion through active recruitment, mentoring, and supporting diverse trainees from under‑represented groups. Excellent teaching skills, with experience delivering inclusive and accessible curricula at undergraduate and graduate levels. Recent examples of research activities and outcomes. Names and contact information of three academic referees. Statement discussing your record of commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion, including a plan to establish a diverse core team. Indicate whether you hold tenure at your current institution.
