This full time position will be based in Calgary. In this role, you will work closely with the Director of Preconstruction to deliver high-quality preconstruction services for high-rise residential developments. As a key member of our preconstruction team, the Senior Estimator will be responsible for producing accurate, well-supported cost estimates through detailed quantity take-offs, thorough cost analysis, and effective collaboration with internal and external stakeholders. Your expertise will help shape project feasibility, support strategic decision-making, and contribute to the preparation of successful tender submissions. Estimate Development: Prepare detailed cost estimates across all project stages, including conceptual, preliminary, progress, control, and final bid/tendered budgets for high-rise residential towers. Quantity Takeoffs: Conduct precise quantity take-offs for all building components and systems, including structural, architectural, building envelope, interior finishes, and Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) Subcontractor & Supplier Management: Solicit, analyze, and evaluate bids from trade contractors and suppliers, preparing comprehensive comparison sheets to inform final pricing. Tender & Bid Preparation: Compile complete and professional tender documents and bid packages for submission. Cost Analysis & Value Engineering: Contribute to value engineering efforts by identifying cost-saving opportunities, analyzing cost implications of design alternatives, and optimizing material and construction methods. Collaboration & Communication: Work closely with the Chief Estimator, Project Managers, Consultants, Owners, and Trades to ensure a thorough understanding of project scope, design. Data Management: Maintain and update estimating databases, including historical cost data, unit pricing, and assembly models, to enhance future estimating accuracy. Risk Identification: Identify and assess potential risks related to estimates, subcontractor proposals, and market conditions, reporting significant exceptions to the Chief Estimator. Site Evaluation: Conduct site visits and inspections for proposed projects to gather essential information influencing cost and construction logistics. This role could be for you if you have Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or a related Applied Science/Engineering discipline. Professional designation (e.g., P.Eng., AScT) is preferred. A proven background in the trades, particularly carpentry, coupled with relevant experience, will also be considered. 10 + years’ of progressive experience in construction estimating, with a strong emphasis on high-rise residential projects. Proven proficiency in industry-standard estimating software (e.g., Timberline Precision Estimating, On-Screen Takeoff, Bluebeam) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills. Knowledge of various construction contract types (e.g., CCDC2, CC5A, CCDC5B, CCA1) and their implications on project estimates. Ability to accurately read, interpret, and analyze complex architectural drawings, specifications, and other project documents.
