Senior Accountant, Residential DevelopmentDepartment: AccountingReports to: VP, AccountingGeneral Description: The Senior Accountant, Residential Development will oversee all accounting functions within the residential development portfolio, including low-rise and hi-rise (condo) developments. Madison has over 5 million sq. ft of approved hi-rise development projects and more than 2,000 approved low-rise units slated for construction over the next decade.Main ResponsibilitiesMaintain the general ledger and annual working paper files for the housing development portfolio by posting year-end journal entries and preparing financial statements.Generate quarterly financial reports and monthly project reports required by lenders.Develop, implement, and maintain a construction management system, including setting up projects (jobs), budgets, job costs, cost codes, contracts, change orders, purchase orders, and various construction progress reports.Perform and/or oversee monthly bank reconciliations, and reconcile control accounts (accounts receivable and accounts payable) to subsidiary ledgers, intercompany balances, and schedule balance sheet accounts.Ensure accurate preparation of monthly HST reconciliations, file HST returns, and remit payments for each project promptly.Perform accounting duties throughout the project, such as posting acquisition and sales closing entries for high-rise and low-rise projects, analyzing all transactions, and incorporating unforeseen costs into the budget while estimating cash flow.Perform/oversee intercompany charge-back billings and reconciliations.Review purchase orders and accounts payable listings, prepare accounts payable journals, and process invoices as needed.Oversee A/P staff and ensure invoices are entered correctly with comprehensive supporting schedules.Oversee bank loans/BA renewals.Other duties/projects as assigned from time to time.Required Skills And QualificationsMinimum of 5-8 years of real estate construction/job cost accounting experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Excellent knowledge of construction cost accounting and related financial procedures.Experience with Newstar (Constellation) is an asset; advanced working knowledge of MS Excel and Word is required.Experience and knowledge of all aspects of year-end working papers preparation and Caseware is required.Professional Accounting designation.Knowledge of Yardi is an asset.Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.Solid analytical and mathematical skills.Meticulous attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.Ability to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced environment.Flexible with a "can-do" attitude – team player.Support our company’s values: Honesty, Integrity, Respect, Trust.Madison Group celebrates diversity and is proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
