Apply todayAbout the role**Job Description** The Chemist will lend their expertise to the team and ensure that hazardous wastes and chemicals are handled, stored, treated, and disposed of in a safe and environmentally compliant manner. The Chemist will assist with and perform all tests as per the standard procedures and operational permits and maintain detailed records. In addition, the Chemist will suggest appropriate chemical and physical treatment methods based on analyses and assist in waste treatment processes as needed. The ideal candidate will have at least of 2 years of analytical lab experience, strong technical proficiency, a drive for continuous improvement, and a passion for environmental stewardship.**Responsibilities*** Operate, maintain, clean, and organize the laboratory space, equipment and logs, in accordance with operational manuals, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements.* Maintain inventory of lab supplies, critical spare parts, reagents, and compressed gases to ensure continuous laboratory operations.* Conduct analyses of hazardous and non-hazardous materials, including compatibility, flashpoint, pH, and toxicity, and document results in a laboratory information management system (LIMS).* Perform advanced analytical testing, such as gas chromatography (GC), inductively coupled plasma (ICP) spectroscopy, and Total Organic Halogen (TOX) analysis, where applicable.* Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of laboratory-generated hazardous waste, complying with all health, safety, and environmental regulations.* Assist in pilot studies and experimental treatment methods and prepare an interpretation of results.* Assist in waste stream classification, treatment, and process determination in accordance with Ontario Regulation 347 and other relevant regulations.* Support regulatory reporting by ensuring complete and accurate data entry, record retention, and documentation of laboratory tests.* Implement and manage company policies and procedures as they pertain to safety, lab analysis, and water treatment and give input on other technical issues in all areas of the business.* Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with other departments, ensuring clear and consistent communication.* Document and track analysis results to identify areas of improvement and adjustment treatment methods to remain compliant with relevant regulations.* Perform other duties as assigned to support the team.**Key Competencies*** Degree or Diploma in Chemistry or a related field from a recognized University/Post-Secondary Institution.* A minimum of 2 years of experience working in an analytical lab, environmental lab and hazardous waste management experience is an asset.* Knowledge of chemical compatibility testing and physical waste characterization techniques (e.g., pH, viscosity, flashpoint, reactivity).* Experience with advanced analytical instruments (e.g., GC/MS, ICP-OES, TOX analyzers, KF titrators) is a strong asset.* Safe storage and handling of Chemicals/Reagents/Compressed Gasses.* Familiarity with waste classification, treatment, and relevant regulatory frameworks (e.g., TDG, WHMIS, GHS, Ontario Regulation 347).* Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and laboratory software systems for data entry and reporting.* Strong analytical thinking and attention to detail for evaluating test results and maintaining accuracy.* Effective communication and collaboration skills to work across departments.* Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.* Comfortable working with hazardous materials, wearing PPE (e.g., air-purifying respirators), and adhering to safety standards.* Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. and safely maneuver up to 50 lbs. as required.* Flexibility to work shifts or extended hours when necessary.All Reworld positions require a candidate's ability to perform the duties and responsibilities of the role while upholding Reworld's Values, including (but not limited to) contributing to a safe and inclusive workplace, delivering results through trust, and building breakthrough capabilities.Please note that Level, Title and/or Salary may be adjusted based on the applicant's experience or skills.Our DEI CommitmentReworld is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
