Engineering Technician II

Position Overview:The Engineering Technician II, will perform surveying duties, assist in the creation of designs and working drawings for municipal engineering projects, maintain municipal infrastructure information, and assist the planning and engineering staff of the department. The incumbent shall generally work independently to provide services.Duties and TasksProvide surveying services for City projects.Process digital and field data to create accurate working drawings of limited scope for use in municipal construction, using a variety of computer assisted drafting (CAD) civil software and various engineering computer modelling applications.Perform data entry and maintain technical records within databases, spreadsheets and maps.Collaborate with the engineering team to understand project requirements and specifications.Develop and maintain geographical information system, engineering databases and digital maps.Assist in the design of capital projects, public works and underground utilities infrastructure to the current standards of practice including the TAC (Transportation Association of Canada) Manual of Geometric Design Guide for Canadian Roads and City of Prince Albert design standards.Perform on-site project supervision on subdivision, capital works, and maintenance projects including performing QA/QC duties as assigned.Develop and maintain geographical information system, engineering databases and digital maps using GIS software.Preparing, printing and scanning of maps, construction drawings and electronically stored drawings and data.Follow the Act, Regulations and policies of Occupational Health & Safety.Follow Acts, Regulations, Bylaws, Agreements, policies and procedures.Perform other related duties as assigned.Key Behavioral CompetenciesAnalytical Thinking/Problem SolvingDemonstrates ability to draw logical conclusions and provide reasonable and creative alternatives.Demonstrates strong technical aptitude and knowledge of relevant subject matter.Detail OrientedDemonstrates a high degree of accuracy in day-to-day work.Demonstrates strong ability in noticing and responding to small errors or inconsistencies in details.Initiative/Self-MotivationDemonstrates a strong ability to work independently while maintaining strong communication and information sharing with relevant parties.Strives for improved performance/productivity and stays current with appropriate work practices, procedures and resources.CommunicationAll communication with peers, superiors and subordinates is respectful and appropriate to the situation.Communication, written or verbal, is clear, concise, direct and purposeful.PlanningDemonstrates the ability to achieve specific organizational objectives by: Determining specific tasks, sequence, timelines and resources to be used in order to attain those goals.Effectively managing or overseeing the completion of that task according to the plan.Team/Collaborative OrientedDemonstrated ability to work as an enthusiastic and positive team member in a results oriented environment.Knowledge Skills and AbilitiesDemonstrated ability to operate total station, GPS, transit, level and other survey instruments.Working knowledge of the standard principles, practices and techniques of the applicable field of Engineering.Ability to work with computer assisted drafting (CAD) civil software and various engineering computer modelling applications.Ability to create and interpret Engineering plans to ensure compliance with Engineering Drawings, Standards and Master Specifications.Working knowledge of current operating systems, spreadsheet, word processing and database applications.Ability to communicate effectively and follow instructions both verbally and in writing.Ability to work with minimal supervision.Good organizational skills.Ability to communicate and establish effective working relationships with peers, supervisors, vendors and the public.QualificationsDiploma in Engineering Technology from a recognized Technical Institute or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a relevant scope of practice.Eligibility for membership as a Professional Technologist or Professional Engineer or Certified Technician with direct related experience.Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.Special ConditionsSecurity Background Check Required.Must be willing to take applicable safety and job-related programs and courses. #J-18808-Ljbffr
