Saturday shifts may also be included to accommodate higher production, especially around statutory holidays.DescriptionMaking optimal use of professional knowledge and experience in managing and directing the pharmacy resources, the Pharmacist is responsible for maintaining the standards required by Fresenius Kabi Canada Hospital Compounding and the profession of pharmacy. The primary responsibility is to ensure a quality‑assured release of IV medication, while supervising the daily activities involved in preparing the medication. The pharmacist controls the processes to ensure that all products produced by Hospital Compounding meet both regulatory and corporate standards of accuracy and quality. The incumbent will release the batches produced, ensuring that all documentation related to the batch meet provincial and federal regulations. The Pharmacist also supervises registered technicians and pharmacy assistants as required to coordinate production activities. The Pharmacist must be able to work under stress with short lead times and changing customer demands to accommodate short turn‑around times. Zero‑defect work is required in a high‑pressure environment.Main ResponsibilitiesPerform all quality checks for batch production including pre‑production checks and final release.Ensure accurate completion of batch records/documentation.Supervise all activities related to storing, producing, and delivering of product to ensure compliance with provincial and federal regulations governing pharmacy practices.Direct and prioritise the production process utilizing professional knowledge to recognise critical customer needs.Utilise pharmaceutical literature and global/local standard operating procedures as the basis for judgement of pharmacy issues relating to the compounding of admixtures.Establish, validate, and maintain quality assurance procedures and records.Observe and assess the equipment, materials and procedures used in the facility and recommend changes where appropriate.Respond to information requests from customers, other health disciplines and Fresenius Kabi personnel related to drug information and pharmacy practice.Participate in departmental clinical and quality improvement initiatives.Ensure all in‑process verifications are met to drive compliance and high‑quality standards.Participate in inventory counts, process validations and process improvements.Assist in the development and review of master batch records and SOPs.Adhere to Good Documentation Practices and ensure completion of all required documentation as per SOPs.Assess deviations for impact on compounded product.Perform AQPIC role for controlled drug substances, ensuring compliance with all regulations for controlled substances and accurate inventory/count.QualificationsMinimum university undergraduate degree in Pharmacy.Part A pharmacist in good standing with the Ontario College of Pharmacists. Experience in a sterile compounding environment is preferred.Ability to handle multiple demands simultaneously under short time constraints.Good interpersonal skills and leadership qualities.Must be able to work all shifts (morning and evening shifts, weekends and statutory holidays).In‑depth understanding of aseptic technique using laminar flow hoods.Microbiology: GMP and USP 797, NAPRA standards for non‑hazardous sterile compounding knowledge is an asset.Strong verbal and communication skills.SkillsExcellent communication skills (written and verbal).Self‑motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.Strong attention to detail with the ability to multitask and handle fluctuating workloads.Excellent organisational and problem‑solving skills.Excellent continuous improvement skills.Proven ability to adhere to standards and procedures and maintain confidentiality.Able to perform duties requiring considerable judgement, high level of organisation and initiative under limited supervision and tight deadlines.Strong analytical skills.Excellent follow‑up and project management skills.Sound business judgement.Ability to prioritize workload.Comfortable lifting up to 15 kg regularly.More About UsAs ONE team, the companies in the Fresenius Group are committed to providing lifesaving and life‑changing healthcare solutions on a global scale.
