The role ensures that mechanical designs, equipment selections, and execution strategies delivered by EPCM contractors, consultants, and vendors are safe, compliant, reliable, maintainable, and aligned with the Owner’s lifecycle, cost, and performance objectives.The role focuses on governance, technical assurance, and value optimization rather than detailed mechanical design.Role-Specific AccountabilitiesMechanical Engineering Leadership & AssuranceProvide senior mechanical engineering oversight across:Capital projects (greenfield and brownfield)Sustaining capital and asset integrity programsReview and approve mechanical engineering deliverables including:Equipment selections and technical specificationsMechanical layouts and general arrangement drawingsDatasheets, material selections, and design criteriaMechanical calculations and design reportsEnsure mechanical designs comply with:Applicable standards and codes (e.g. AS, ISO, API where applicable)Owner’s mechanical standards and asset strategiesSafety-in-design, maintainability, and operability requirementsChallenge contractor and vendor proposals to ensure fit-for-purpose, whole-of-life outcomesMining & Processing Mechanical SystemsProvide technical oversight and assurance for mechanical systems including, but not limited to:Fixed plant and materials handling systems (crushers, screens, conveyors, stackers, reclaimers)Mobile equipment interfaces and infrastructureStructural/mechanical interfaces, chutes, bins, hoppers, and wear systemsPiping systems, valves, and pressure equipmentLifting equipment and mechanical handling systemsEnsure mechanical designs support long-term reliability, availability, and maintainability (RAM)Owner’s Representative & GovernanceAct as the technical representative of the Owner in engagements with:EPCM contractors and engineering consultantsEquipment suppliers and OEMsParticipate in design reviews, HAZID/HAZOPs, constructability, and maintainability workshopsProvide technical input into procurement evaluations, bid assessments, and vendor clarificationsManage mechanical engineering change requests and deviations on behalf of the OwnerProject & Operational SupportProvide engineering input across the full project lifecycle:Studies and business case developmentDetailed engineering, construction, and installationPre-commissioning, commissioning, and handover to operationsInterface closely with:Operations and maintenance teamsProject controls, procurement, and contracts teamsReliability, asset management, and condition monitoring functionsSupport troubleshooting of mechanical failures, defects, and performance shortfalls during execution and operations.Risk, Safety & ComplianceChampion safety-in-design principles and ensure hazards are identified and mitigated earlyIdentify technical risks and develop mitigation strategiesEnsure compliance with statutory, environmental, and corporate requirementsSupport incident investigations and root cause analyses where mechanical engineering input is requiredIdentify opportunities for:Capital and operating cost optimizationImproved reliability, maintainability, and availabilityTechnology adoption and innovationCapture and apply lessons learned from projects and operationsContribute to the development and improvement of Owner’s mechanical standards, guidelines, and best practicesMentoring & Technical AuthorityAct as a mechanical technical authority within the Owner’s TeamProvide mentoring and technical guidance to junior mechanical engineersSupport capability development and knowledge sharing across the organisationPromote engineering discipline, accountability, and technical excellenceQualifications & Experience:Chartered/Professional Engineer status or eligibility (e.g., CPEng, P.Eng)10+ years of relevant experience in the mining sectorDemonstrated experience working on the Owner’s side or in senior roles within EPCM/consultancy environmentsStrong understanding of mining fixed plant, materials handling, and rotating equipment.Experience with both open pit and underground mining operations would be advantageousExposure to mineral processing plants and bulk materials handling systems would be advantageousPostgraduate qualifications in engineering, reliability, or asset management would be advantageousThis posting reflects a new current vacancy and Kinterra’s commitment to a fair and transparent recruitment process.
