Vancouver, Canada Invinity Energy Systems Full time

Join to apply for the Senior / Lead Systems Engineer role at Invinity Energy Systems 1 day ago – Be among the first 25 applicants Base Pay Range CA$120,000.00/yr - CA$140,000.00/yr Energy storage is the most exciting area in energy today. Massive amounts of energy storage are required if renewable energy is to take its rightful place on the electric grid. Invinity provides an alternative to the most common type of battery, lithium-ion because the battery technology that works so well in our pockets doesn’t work as well at the grid scale; it wears out, limits use, and even catches fire. Manufactured as a standardised product in a factory, Invinity’s vanadium flow batteries don’t degrade, won’t catch fire, and can be operated continuously from full charge to full discharge for 25 years. Invinity has 75 megawatt-hours of its modular battery systems in 82 projects across 15 countries – more than any other company in the space. We’ve deployed the largest flow battery systems in the U.S., Canada, Australia, and the UK, and are supported by the UK's National Wealth Fund, some of the world’s leading institutional investors and our projects are backed by major institutions including the U.S. Department of Energy and the UK Government. A compelling product and recent funding put Invinity in a position to grow dramatically as it addresses the global imperative for stationary energy storage. Join us as we help transform renewable energy into a stable and dependable contributor to the transition to net zero. Invinity has operations in the UK, Canada and the U.S. and trades publicly in the UK on AIM and AQSE and in the U.S. on OTCQX. For more information about us visit our webpage. Responsibilities Lead the system design and engineering of Invinity’s new Vanadium flow battery products. Develop and maintain system design documentation, including product and system specifications, P&IDs, DFMEAs, and hazard analyses, for both existing products and new products. Coordinate information across a multi-disciplinary engineering design team and broadly with other technical groups within the organization. Define, maintain and manage system and component requirements with validation and verification traceability. Develop DVP&R including management of system-level test programs and model verification. Evaluate new product architectures and designs using a variety of tools, including model-based simulation, for performance, application suitability, and techno-economic viability. Required Experience and Qualifications Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Systems Engineering or related discipline. 5+ years experience in Systems Engineering role or similar within power or energy related industry. Familiarity with structured Systems Engineering processes, such as the V-model, incorporating system definition, requirements decomposition, verification and validation, and product lifecycle management. Experience developing and utilizing FMEA and/or other risk assessment and prioritization tools to inform design and testing efforts. Experience with electro-chemical systems, such as batteries or fuel cells, involving hydraulic, electrical, mechanical and software elements. Strong ability to set deliverable targets, meet deadlines, and deliver consistently in a collaborative team and hybrid workplace, using tools such as Jira, Confluence, or similar. Recommended Experience Experience with model-based engineering and design for product development. Familiarity with Python and Mathworks products such as Matlab, Simulink and Simscape. Familiarity with component and system reliability modeling to evaluate product design margins. Familiarity with functional safety and code compliance standards, such as IEC, UL and CE for energy storage or flow batteries. Experience in project management and inter-disciplinary team coordination. At Invinity Energy Systems, we are dedicated to providing equal employment opportunities to all individuals and practicing wage transparency to ensure fairness and equity. The salary for this position ranges from $120,000 to $140,000 per year and will be determined by a combination of the interview process, prior work experience, and educational background. If you are great at what you do, willing to engage with our collaborative culture, and motivated by making a difference in the world, consider joining us. Invinity Energy Systems is small enough that every team member plays a critical role in our daily business, but large enough to participate in landmark clean energy projects around the world. At Invinity, we are actively focused on increasing the representation of women across all levels of our organisation, particularly within our engineering, manufacturing and technical teams. We believe that diverse perspectives drive better innovation, and we are committed to providing a working environment where women can thrive, lead, and progress their careers in STEM.
