Position purpose: Working in a holistic environment in developing student‑athletes, the Assistant Coach will support the Head Coach to allow the program to meet its objectives. The Assistant Coach will assume the roles and duties as assigned by and under the supervision of the Head Coach to include duties relating to technical coaching support, recruiting, general administration and team management support. The incumbent will also be required to assist with alumni, community events/activities, and other fundraising initiatives. The Assistant Coach may also be responsible for the coordination and implementation of technical schemes and game strategies for assigned sub‑units within the team. About the position: The Gee‑Gee’s women’s rugby program is seeking an assistant coach (forwards) who will play a key role in developing our student‑athletes both on and off the field. We are looking for a leader who not only brings strong technical and tactical expertise but also contributes to an environment where student‑athletes feel supported, understood, and empowered to succeed—especially by individuals who can relate to their realities and lived experiences. The ideal candidate will bring experience and perspective that enrich the team culture, helping guide student‑athletes through their university journey and preparing them for success—whether in professional sport or their future careers beyond the game. Responsibilities Coaching Implement annual competitive objectives, practice sessions, and competition events as per head coach’s plan. Assist in delivering team meetings, video analysis, performance analysis, sport psychology support, team building, academic monitoring, and player evaluations. Assist head coach in developing game strategies for each competition. Assist head coach in developing, organizing and monitoring off‑season training, practices, and training camps. Recruiting Identify recruits across Canada through established networks. Develop recruiting package and maintain communication with recruits and families. Organize and conduct campus tours. Liaise with Sports Services Admissions, Housing, Liaison Office and other university supports. Assist in developing and implementing a multi‑year recruiting plan. General Administration, Communications and Community Outreach Coordinate assigned program‑specific fundraising initiatives. Work with Manager of Camps and Intramural Programs to coordinate summer youth camp program. Assist head coach in monitoring academic progress and coordinating academic support. Coordinate student‑athlete involvement in community outreach and on‑campus promotions. Assist in coordinating alumni relations and development activities. What you will bring Post‑secondary education. Proven technical knowledge and coaching experience in rugby. Bilingualism – French and English (spoken and written). NCCP Level 1 or equivalent certification, or willingness to obtain. Experience using computer systems and software for sport analysis. Availability to work evenings and weekends per schedule.
