Public Health Nurse #26-101 (Job opportunity)DetailsPart-time Temporary (up to November 15, 2026, with possibility of extension) – Recruitment #26-101 (ONA)Number of Vacancies: 1Division: Health ProtectionWork Location Arrangement: Fully On-site – the position requires 100% on-site placement; it is operationally dependent based on established criteria; remote work is not an option.Salary: $39.59-$52.10 per hour (as per ONA collective agreement)Position summary:We are currently seeking a highly motivated health professional to contribute to our organizational mission of working with our communities to promote and protect health and prevent disease.Reporting to the Program Manager, the Public Health Nurse will be responsible for developing, implementing and evaluating Health Protection programs within Public Health Sudbury and Districts. The incumbent will work cooperatively with agency staff, community partners, and individuals to provide the leadership and nursing expertise required for program planning, delivery and evaluation.The assignment is with the Sexual Health team focusing on planning, implementation, and evaluation of programming to prevent and control sexually transmitted and blood-borne infections (STBBIs) and to promote healthy sexuality practices and safer sexual practices for priority populations, cases and contacts.Responsibilities:Provides input for the ongoing development of the division’s philosophy, goals, objectives and program/service activities, and the strategic plan.Represents the department, division and program on community initiatives committees and coalitions providing consultation and exchange of information.Provides input for the ongoing development of program policies and procedures at the agency, division, program and team level.Supports programs to emphasize population health, and promotion of health and client engagement to meet the Ontario Public Health Standards, 2018, and local needs.In consultation with manager and fellow team members, implements appropriate health promotion interventions utilizing skills in social marketing, media communications, innovation, intersectoral planning, community relationships (i.e. networks and coalitions) and provides consultation specific to health promotion programs using a variety of theories (e.g. behaviours change theory, transtheoretical model and social marketing).Assists with the division’s student placement program and acts as a preceptor for assigned students.Acts as a resource person to the organization and the community.Along with fellow team members, participates in the team-specific orientation for new staff members.Offers guidance and support to volunteers, as appropriate.Participates in division and team in-services.Performs clinical procedures and administers vaccines as assigned.Uses clinical skills to assess the client’s health status to enable joint planning, implementation and evaluation of appropriate nursing interventions.Provides direct nursing care and counselling on health related issues.Supports the essential duties of other public health nurses in their absence.Maintains documentation records according to the standards of the College of Nurses and provides reports. Writes articles for newsletters, newspapers and other media.In consultation with manager, works with fellow team members on policy advocacy to support political action initiatives within the framework of an approved agency plan.Recommends peer educators, maintains liaison and support for community peer educators.Performs venipuncture and administers biologics as certified.Dispenses prescribed medication in accordance with the College of Nurses and agency guidelines.Performs case management in accordance with program requirements.Performs duties as assigned in disaster/emergency/crisis situations.Identifies supplies, equipment and resources necessary to carry out programs in support of the divisional budget preparation process.Conducts projects in a fiscally responsible fashion.Participates as directed in enforcement of the Health Protection and Promotion Act.Contributes to the development of program plans and develops, plans, implements, coordinates and evaluates assigned projects in consultation with the manager and other team members as required.Provides input into the budget process upon request.Requirements:Recognized Bachelor of Science in Nursing or Bachelor of Nursing Degree.Current certificate of competence with the College of Nurses of Ontario.Current CPR level C certification.Current training in the administration of naloxone.Minimum 3 years public/community health-based nursing experience (within the last five years) in the area of sexual health promotion, sexually transmitted and blood-borne infections, and harm reduction.Experience working with and providing services to people experiencing mental health challenges, mental illness, substance use, and/or addiction.Maintains and demonstrates professional competence as a Registered Nurse and accepts responsibility for professional nursing practice in accordance with the College of Nurses Standards of Practice, other relevant legislation and agency policy.Demonstrated ability to utilize the nursing process, including the assessment of the health-related needs of individuals, families and groups and the community, manage time effectively, mobilize and facilitate groups, work both independently and with a team.Demonstrated leadership skills.Knowledge of community and health unit programs, resources, and activities for referral.Knowledge of harm reduction approach, strategies and a strong commitment to supporting the philosophy of service delivery.Knowledge of best practices and guidelines on sexually transmitted and blood-borne infections.Excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, flexibility, creativity and problem-solving skills.Knowledge and skills in community needs assessment, program planning, and evaluation including surveys, focus groups and report writing.Facilitation and presentation skills: be able to engage an audience and obtain buy-in.Knowledge and demonstrated skills in population-based health promotion strategies including community mobilization, policy development, mass communications, social marketing, and behaviour change.Demonstrated computer proficiency.Advanced oral and written proficiency in English and French is required.Satisfactory police reference check (vulnerable sector) is a condition of employment.Maintains current Ontario driver’s license and has access to a reliable vehicle.Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required.Why work at Public Health?Learn more about why you might want to work for us Learn about our benefits, pension plan, wellness, flexible and inclusive work environment, and more.Human Resources, Corporate Services DivisionPublic Health Sudbury & Districts1300 Paris Street, Sudbury, ON P3E 3A3Please include the recruitment number in the subject line.Please include your cover letter and resumé inonePDF or Word document.Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at 4:30 pmWe wish to thank all applicants for their interest in this position; however, only those invited for an interview will be contacted.Accessibility and inclusivityPublic Health Sudbury & Districts is committed to creating an accessible, inclusive, and diverse workforce.
