This leadership role is ideal for an experienced Journeyman Carpenter who brings technical skill, strong communication, and a passion for mentorship and high-quality workmanship. As a Carpenter Foreman, you will be responsible for coordinating, supervising, and participating in all aspects of carpentry construction. You will work closely with the Site Superintendent and Project Manager to ensure work is performed safely, efficiently, and to specification. This position requires the ability and willingness to work out of town on a rotational basis, depending on project location.Key ResponsibilitiesLead and supervise a crew of journeypersons and apprentices on carpentry scopes including formwork, framing, and finishing for building construction projectsPlan and Coordinate daily work activities, ensuring timelines, safety standards, and quality expectations are metRead and interpret blueprints, construction drawings, and specifications to guide work and layoutHands-On Carpentry including performing carpentry duties as needed, including measuring, cutting, assembling, installing, and repairing structures using wood, steel, and other materialsEnsure all work complies with building codes, drawings, and IDL standardsPromoting a strong safety culture involves conducting toolbox talks, safety observations, and ensuring safe work practicesTrain and guide apprentices and less experienced crew membersCoordinate material deliveries, inventory, and usage of tools and equipmentCollaborate with project stakeholders, including superintendents, subcontractors, and engineersQualificationsJourneyman Carpenter Certification (Red Seal preferred) or equivalent trade certification recognized in a Canadian jurisdictionMinimum 5 years of progressive carpentry experience, with at least 2 years in a foreman or leadership capacityProven experience with formwork and framing in commercial or institutional buildingsAbility to read and interpret blueprints, layout plans, and construction drawingsStrong leadership, organizational, and communication skillsWorking knowledge of site safety protocols and Occupational Health & Safety regulationsDemonstrated ability to motivate crews, manage work schedules, and resolve job site challengesWillingness to work outdoors in varying conditions and on active construction sitesPosition BenefitsAt IDL we strive to ensure a positive and safe work environment.
