Pack-Smart Inc. automated equipment isdesigned, built, and shipped from our manufacturing facility in Concord,Ontario Job title: Engineering Manager (Mechanical Design) —Lead, Develop, and Elevate a High-Performance Design Team We’re looking for an Engineering Manager who is ready tostep out of day-to-day design work and into a full leadership role withinPack-Smart’s mechanical engineering department. This position is ideal for asenior mechanical designer with extensive automation experience who now wantsto lead people, guide technical direction, and elevate engineeringexcellence across the organization. In this role, you will oversee the full mechanical designfunction—from technical planning and resource management to coaching designers,improving processes, and ensuring that our equipment meets Pack-Smart’sstandards of innovation, speed, and precision. You will partner withcross-functional teams, remove roadblocks, and create an environment whereengineers can perform at their highest level. Lead,mentor, and coach a team of mechanical design engineers (junior, intermediate,senior, etc). Conductregular 1:1s, performance reviews, and provide career developmentguidance. Build ahigh-performance team culture centered on accountability, learning, andcontinuous improvement. Supporthiring, onboarding, and talent development for the mechanical engineeringdepartment. Technical Direction & Design Excellence Providestrategic technical oversight without doing the design work. Ensure alldesigns meet Pack-Smart’s standards for quality, manufacturability,reliability, and safety. Lead andfacilitate design reviews, offering guidance grounded in strong mechanicalengineering fundamentals. Set andmaintain best practices for CAD modeling, GD&T, documentation, andengineering calculations. Project & Resource Management Plan andallocate engineering resources across multiple automation projects. Setpriorities, manage timelines, and ensure engineering deliverables areexecuted effectively. Overseeengineering change requests (ECR/ECO) and ensure smooth documentationflow. Collaboratewith electrical engineering, controls, manufacturing, and procurement toalign project milestones. Process Improvement & Operational Leadership Drivecontinuous improvement in engineering workflows, design processes, anddocumentation standards. Implementsystems that increase team productivity, reduce rework, and streamlinecommunication. Supportcompany-wide initiatives such as standardization, modular design, anddesign-for-manufacturing. You will manage a team ofup to 10 individuals. Required 7+ years of experience asa mechanical designer in automation, robotics, packaging machinery, orcustom machine building. Strong leadership abilitywith either informal or formal team-leading experience. Deep understanding of CAD(SolidWorks preferred), GD&T, pneumatics, servo systems, andmechanical fundamentals. Proven ability to manage timelines,coordinate teams, and solve cross-functional challenges. Excellent communication,mentorship, and decision-making skills. Nice to Have Experience overseeingengineering processes or project coordination. Familiarity with PDMsystems and structured document control.
