Guided by an Audit Manager or Engagement Leader, you will operate in a blended role consisting of both financial statement and performance audits.As a Senior Staff Auditor with practical experience—either at or nearing your designation—you will work independently and in team environments. You will apply your project management skills and exercise your strong critical thinking in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Your technical expertise, coupled with effective communication skills, will lead to your success as you perform moderately complex audits, build relationships, obtain knowledge of the auditee’s business, and provide coaching and mentorship to junior CPA students.Applying your audit experience, you will contribute to the planning, execution, and reporting of your assigned audit projects that focus on the Government of Alberta’s management control systems and processes used to deliver programs and services to Albertans. In addition to performance (value-for-money) audits, you will also audit the Government of Alberta’s financial statements, where you will develop your analytical aptitude for computer-assisted auditing techniques and gain exposure to data analytics in auditing.QUALIFICATIONSRequired:Related university degreeCurrently enrolled in (or completed) a Canadian CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant) programAudit experience in both financial statements and performance audit leading towards a Canadian CPA designationMinimum two years of progressive financial statement audit experience applying Canadian Auditing Standards (CAS)Demonstrated abilities in documentation and evaluation of internal control environments and entity processesStrong written and verbal communication skills, including presentationsAdvanced skills with Microsoft applicationsAssets:Previous audit experience in public accountingGovernment operations experience at the municipal, provincial, or federal levelFamiliarity with the Canadian Public Sector Accounting Standards, IFRS, and performance audit standards (CSAE 3001)Previous experience with data analyticsCOMPENSATION PACKAGEMarket competitive annual salary starting at $2,676.37 bi-weekly based on classification and experienceFinancial support to complete the CPA programCompensated overtimeSupport for professional development, including leading edge in-house trainingA first-year vacation grant, plus vacation earned each monthPaid statutory holidays following Government of Alberta leave directives, including Christmas ClosureFinal candidates for this position will be asked to undergo a security clearance.Out-of-town and overnight travel within Alberta is required for this position.Applications submitted without a cover letter will not be considered.This role is for the Edmonton office, working 36.25 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with overtime as required.
