RN - Addictions Medicine Consult Service Primarily working within the Emergency Department and under the general direction of the Program Manager of Addictions, this expert registered nurse will help plan,implement and evaluate care delivered to people who present with addictionsrelated illness. This nurse will connect with district and regional partners to ensure patients are connected with the most appropriate addictions service. Thenurse will work to implement best practices related to addictions care, collectand disseminate data, and develop the skills of other staff to meet theorganization’s competency requirements, accreditation standards, as well as promote an environment of quality care for patients. Position Responsibilities: Supportspatients presenting to the emergency department in planning and implementingthe most appropriate plan of care for people presenting with substance usedisorders. SupportsAddictions Medicine Consult Service in coordinating care for patientspresenting with a substance use disorder or a co-morbid substance use disorderadmitted to various departments. Coordinatespatient care in consultation with the multi-disciplinary team. Developsinnovative approaches to care delivery to meet the needs of the patient. Toassist in the development and evaluation of standards of quality patient carefor patients presenting with addictions. Actsas a patient/family advocate. Respondsto patient/family concerns and escalates to Manager as required. Servesas a clinical resource to staff within the hospital to optimize problem solvingand has knowledge of clinical resources that may be required. Assistancewith patient care in any area in Addictions as required. Advocatesfor policy and program changes are necessary to provide optimal care for thepatient. Assistswith introduction and implementation of policy, procedural and clinicalchanges. Assistswith design of staff education/orientation. Toprovide leadership in the provision of health promotion/educational material topatients and families. Promotesa positive image of the hospital, department and provider. Actsto identify, diffuse, and resolve situations of potential conflict/complaints. Providein time debriefing with critical situations. Position Requirements: Mustbe a graduate of a diploma or baccalaureate (BScN) nursing program and possessa current Certificate of Competence issued by the College of Nurses of Ontario. Mustbe a member in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario Mustbe eligible for membership with the College of Nurses of Ontario. Experiencein providing clinical assessments and interventions in and addictions setting. Aminimum of 5 recent years of addictions experience and ability to function as astaff RN in the Addictions program. Musthave the ability to perform independently, all skills published in theStandards of Nursing Practice, by the College of Nurses of Ontario and thelearning ability to achieve and maintain organizational competencies. Experiencewith data entry, Windows programs, and Meditech. Familiarityof the META:PHI ListServ. Certification in the administration of Suballocate. Demonstratedfamiliarity/certification of recovery-oriented approach and trauma informedcare. Mustbe able to demonstrate and perform the required competencies listed for theprogram/department. Certificationin the provision of culturally safe care. Previousexperience in teaching/ educator/ resource role required. Demonstratedexperience in the collection, presenting, and reporting on performance metrics. Demonstratedexperience in project development, implementation, and evaluation. Demonstratesan understanding of continuous quality improvement and is committed to itsapplication. Demonstrateseffective teamwork skills with interdisciplinary team and physician team. Demonstratesthe ability to develop work objectives and apply these to his/her activities. Certificationin Basic Cardiac Life Support. Musthave the ability to communicate effectively with people from a variety ofbackgrounds to present and receive information effectively both orally and inwriting. Mustpossess patience, understanding and tact when dealing with patients, staff,families and visitors. Musthave physical ability to perform work requiring the lifting and transferring ofincapacitated patients. Mustpossess the ability to perform adequately under stress when confronted with criticalor unexpected events. GraduateCertificate in Mental Health and Addictions is an asset. Mustpossess the ability to provide effective services to clients/patients in bothEnglish and French. Starting salary of $39.07/hour; $76,186.50/year (As per Step 1 ofthe ONA collective agreement.) Option to enroll in Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan.
