If you thrive in an environment that allows for independent and team-based work, for flexibility and creativity, and are passionate about making a lasting impact, apply today to join our team As an Occupational Therapist you will: Participate as a member of an interdisciplinary health care team by providing occupational therapy services to designated clients who are seriously affected by substance use and mental health problems to enable them to achieve and maintain optimal health outcomes. Travel to various work locations, performs assessments on client’s occupational performance utilizing an evidence-based approach, plan and implement outcome oriented services, evaluate the effectiveness of the services and acts as a clinical resource for the team. Prepare and maintain records, participate in interdisciplinary research, demonstrate safe and effective resource utilization and quality management, and contribute to the development, review and promotion of occupational therapy services. Contribute to the organization and delivery of occupational therapy services by participating in departmental/program quality improvement initiatives, meetings, research and education. Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) ACT is a team-based, person-centered service delivery model that combines treatment, rehabilitation and support services using transdisciplinary team-based care as a community alternative to psychiatric hospitalization. These teams provide intensive, specific and continuous services to meet the needs of individuals living with serious and persistent mental health and/or substance use challenges, who have not benefited from traditional outpatient programs. ACT teams bring health care and life-skills support to clients, all of whom would have challenges accessing health care and other social supports. ACT uses a trauma informed approach to promote recovery through community-based treatment and rehabilitation. The ACT team strives to support clients to maintain wellness in the community, reduce the number of client contacts with police, access substance use supports and harm reduction, and improve the quality of life for clients. Qualifications Education & Experience Current full registration as an Occupational Therapist with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC (CHCPBC). Eligible for membership in the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT). Two (2) years’ recent, related clinical experience in a complex health care environment, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Valid B.C. Driver’s License. Local area travel may require the use of a personal vehicle. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of Occupational Therapy theory and practice within a client/family centred model of care. Knowledge of the CHCPBC standards of practice and guidelines for clinical practitioners. Knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in client care. Knowledge of evidence-based clinical practice related to designated clinical area(s). Knowledge of occupational therapy standardised tests and measures. Knowledge of research process and methodology. Ability to teach and empower clients to assume control over their health. Ability to adjust to unexpected events, problem-solve, set priorities and deal with conflict. Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team. Ability to communicate (orally and in writing) and deal effectively with clients and their families, coworkers, physicians, other health care staff, and staff of external agencies. Demonstrated understanding of Trauma Informed Practice, Harm Reduction and Recovery Oriented Care. Demonstrated ability to promote Indigenous Cultural Safety. Demonstrated ability to provide competent and culturally safe care in a variety of settings and with diverse populations. Ability to provide effective consultation. Ability to establish workload priorities in collaboration with others in a complex health care environment. Ability to recognize when referral to another health care professional is required. Demonstrated skill in occupational therapy techniques and the use of applicable equipment and supplies. Ability to operate related equipment including applicable software application. Physical ability to perform the duties of the position. Closing Statement The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks.
