Visit our website Purpose of Role The Head of Procurement provides strategic and operational leadership over all sourcing, contacting, and category management activities ensuring sustainable and cost-effective supply of goods, services, and equipment essential to operations. This role ensures procurement decisions support production continuity, optimize total cost of ownership, strengthen supplier performance, and uphold the company’s commitments to safety, regulatory compliance, sustainability, and community engagement. The Head of Procurement leads all sourcing and procurement activities ensuring the timely supply of equipment, materials, consumables, and services that support safe, reliable, and cost-effective production. This role leads a team responsible for managing strategic sourcing, supplier negotiations, and contracting aligning procurement decisions with overall business goals and operational, environmental, and sustainability priorities. Job Description Strategic Procurement Leadership Lead and develop team of procurement professionals at corporate office. Develop and execute procurement strategies for global spend categories and complex – high value contracts for operations and projects (as required) including mobile equipment, fuel, engineering services, mining contractors, drill & blast contractors, processing plant consumables, camp services, and logistics. Align procurement plans with production requirements and functional demand plans. Build procurement governance framework that addresses compliance & ESG commitments. Drive total cost of ownership (TCO) improvements across all categories. Procurement Management Ensures fair, transparent supplier evaluations by using standardized criteria, cross-functional evaluation, and strict conflict-of-interest and governance controls. Maintains consistency and auditability through clear documentation, equal information sharing to all bidders, and the use of structured procurement systems and processes. Lead negotiations for high-value contracts with OEMs, key consumable suppliers, and service companies. Manage supplier performance, including safety, quality assurance, and delivery reliability. Oversee alliance and framework agreements and service-level agreements (SLAs). Develop local procurement initiatives, including Indigenous and community supplier engagement where required. Oversee end-to-end procurement for site operations (as required) and corporate functions. Ensure continuity of supply for key consumables and critical items. Manage or support procurement for major capital projects (e.g., expansions, processing plant upgrades, etc.) as required by projects. Ensure robust supplier qualification processes, focusing on safety, compliance, and technical capability. Collaborate closely with Maintenance, Mining, Metallurgy, Engineering, Operations, and Supply Chain/Logistics teams. Risk, Compliance & Sustainability Promote fairness, objectivity, and traceability in sourcing decisions. Ensure transparent tender processes and prevent conflicts of interest. Champion adherence to Procurement Policy. Assess and mitigate supply risks. Ensure procurement practices comply with all relevant regulations, environmental requirements, and corporate governance standards. Drive sustainable procurement initiatives. Team & Stakeholder Leadership Lead, mentor, and develop procurement teams across mine sites and corporate office. Foster collaboration across Operations, Finance, Technical Services, HSE, and Supply Chain. Build a high-performance culture emphasizing safety, reliability, and continuous improvement. Financial & Performance Management Manage procurement budgets and cost-saving initiatives. Track and report procurement KPIs: supplier performance, cost reductions, stockout rates, contract compliance, and lead-time metrics. Ensure accurate demand forecasting and integration with inventory management. Education and Experience Extensive procurement (15 years +) experience in mining, heavy equipment, oil & gas, or large-scale capital-intensive operations. Strong knowledge of mining supply categories: mobile equipment (HME), fixed plant, explosives, fuel, engineering services, camp services, PPE, and transport/logistics. Expertise in contract negotiation, commercial terms, and OEM frameworks. Excellent stakeholder engagement skills with operations, maintenance, and project teams. Experience with ERP and procurement systems (SAP, JDE, etc.). Able to lead geographically dispersed teams. Professional certification (CPP/CPSM) advantageous; mining industry certifications a plus. Compensation and Total Rewards The base salary range for this role is $190,000 to $215,000 CAD plus a 30% STI and 30% LTI bonus and group benefit coverage. The hiring range reflects our targeted compensation framework for the role. The actual offer will be determined through a comprehensive evaluation of each candidate’s experience, capabilities, and potential impact, along with consideration of internal equity, team structure, and benchmark market data for similar positions.
