Overview Do you have an interest in leading safe, fun and quality recreation programs for children, youth and families? This opportunity is with the Parks, Recreation and Culture department as a Program Leader. You will provide exceptional customer service, plan, schedule, implement and lead a variety of social, cultural, sport, fitness, and general interest activities, including Summer Camps and Playgrounds. You will direct activities of volunteers and assistants, provide guidance and leadership, and prioritize safety by enforcing rules and equipment/facility use guidelines. Performs related work as required. Responsibilities Provide exceptional customer service and lead a variety of recreation activities for children, youth and families. Plan, schedule, implement and lead social, cultural, sport, fitness, and general interest activities including Summer Camps and Playgrounds. Direct activities of volunteers and assistants, providing guidance and leadership according to program needs. Prioritize safety by enforcing rules and proper use of equipment and facilities. Perform related work as required. Qualifications Completion of grade 11 and some related experience, preferably in municipal recreational work; some supervisory experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Working knowledge of organized community recreation principles and practices; safe and proper use of equipment and facilities. Ability to plan, schedule, implement and lead assigned recreational programs and provide guidance to subordinates on instructional duties and safety. Experience in coaching, camp counselling, leading Scouts or Guides, tutoring, or volunteering in a recreation or childcare environment is an asset. Desirable education/training: Recreation Leadership or Therapeutic Recreation Diplomas, Teacher Certification (PDP), Early Childhood Education, Child and Youth Care, High Five, and experience working with children and youth with extra needs. First Aid Certificate and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation – Level C are required. Police Information Check may be required. Pay Rate Pay Rate: $25.22 per hour + 12% in lieu of benefits (2024 Rates) Location Location: Various Burnaby locations. Hours of Work Hours of work: This is an auxiliary position; hours and shifts are based on operational requirements and do not provide guaranteed hours of work.
