Accreditation Canada and Health Standards Organization (HSO) are embarking on a bold mission to advance quality health care for all across Canada and around the globe. Accreditation Canada is a non-profit, non-governmental organization that provides accreditation to healthcare organizations using its international standards of excellence in more than 30 countries.

The Enterprise is currently seeking healthcare professionals with clinical expertise to become international surveyors, as detailed below. We invite applicants with expertise in a variety of disciplines aligned to our services across the continuum of care. Our current surveyor pool of more than 500+ experts includes physicians, nurses, pharmacists, dentists, and other highly qualified healthcare professionals.

Please note that additional opportunities for consultancy on international quality improvement projects are also available. Interest in these assignments can be indicated at the bottom of your CV.

This opportunity is for applicants residing permanently outside of Canada. Canadian applicants will be considered for Canadian opportunities depending on recruitment needs and availability.

Becoming an International Surveyor

International surveyors are required to participate in a minimum of 10 survey days per year, or approximately two surveys annually. Initial training and ongoing learning sessions are offered to all international surveyors within the surveyor pool.

When participating in a survey, depending on its duration, one or two days of preparation is required to support activities. In addition, travel may be required. Surveyor assignments are compensated with a modest honorarium as well as full travel reimbursement.

As peer reviewers and champions of quality and safety, your responsibilities include:

  • Conducting on-site surveys as a member of a multi-disciplinary team;
  • Assessing the quality of programs and services against the standards of excellence and identifying areas for improvement;
  • Sharing your expertise and providing guidance on best practices in the field;

You have a unique history. Does it include the abilities and experience listed below?

  • Currently employed by an organization that is accredited by Accreditation Canada.
  • Experience as a mid-level (or higher) health care professional.
  • Experience working with others (e.g. patients, clinicians, or administrators) on governance, service design and/or quality improvement initiatives.
  • Fluency in English with excellent communication skills, including strong writing skills and the ability to adapt your communication style to the audience.
  • Ability to analyze information and draw conclusions based on direct observation and document review.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, a positive attitude, and the ability to adapt to unexpected changes.
  • Strong technology skills, including the ability to operate a computer and use web-based software.

You’ll stand out if you...

  • Are fluent in French, Arabic, Farsi, Italian, Slovenian, Spanish or other languages.
  • Have clinical experience and a valid professional license.
