Career Opportunities: Manager, Equipment and Trucking (4811) Reporting to the Vice President, the Manager of Equipment and Trucking will be responsible for overseeing the procurement, maintenance, and utilization of equipment and vehicles. They will ensure that the equipment is available for projects, manage operations, and optimize efficiency. The candidate will work with dispatch to coordinate transportation schedules. Additionally, they will be involved in budgeting, vendor management, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. Job Location : 100 Citigate Drive, Ottawa, ON Vacancy Type: Replacement PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES Equipment Utilization and Efficiency Develop and implement strategies for the efficient utilization of all equipment, ensuring that all equipment is used effectively to maximize productivity. Implement systems and processes to streamline dispatching operations and improve overall efficiency. Use data-driven insights to make informed decisions regarding equipment deployment and resource allocation. Use the resource schedule to determine assignments to help boost utilization. Monitor overall equipment performance and identify opportunities for improvement or upgrades to enhance efficiency. Stay current with technology available for equipment. Implement new equipment and technology vehicle technology, including automation where possible and AI data-driven solutions. Work with other teams to collect data from equipment telematics to help report daily production. Vendor and Supplier Management Collaborate with vendors and suppliers to negotiate favorable terms for equipment purchases, rentals, and maintenance services. Evaluate vendor performance and make recommendations for improvements or changes as needed. Implement cost-saving measures where possible, such as optimizing equipment usage and negotiating favorable contracts with suppliers. Set rates with all suppliers. Liaise with other groups from Tomlinson to leverage buying power. Build and maintain strong relationships with key vendors to ensure timely delivery of equipment and services. Reporting and Data Analysis Develop reports and metrics to analyze equipment utilization rates, downtime, and overall efficiency. Ensure an accurate inventory of all equipment is maintained, including tracking maintenance schedules, repairs, and replacement needs. Monitor and present the equipment capital budget for all heavy equipment and trucking. Manage the internal process and workflows as they relate to capital purchases and equipment management. Maintenance and Safety Work with garages to prioritize maintenance and repairs. Provide oversight to the implementation of safety protocols and training programs to promote a culture of safety among equipment operators. Conduct regular inspections and audits to maintain compliance with safety guidelines and regulations. Team Management and Development Supervise and manage multiple teams. Ensure that team dispatches and manages equipment in a way that meets the requirements and project deadlines of our operations. Oversee development plans for all staff in the team. Mentor and develop team members to enhance their skills and capabilities. Ensure teamwork, collaboration, and open communication within the team. Identify areas of improvement for operator training. WORKING CONDITIONS Standard office environment with occasional site visits. External meetings required with vendors. EDUCATION, REQUIREMENTS AND EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Logistics, Supply Chain Management or related field is an asset, OR equivalent work experience. 10+ years’ experience in equipment management at a senior level. Extensive knowledge of tools and equipment utilization, purchasing, repairs, and preventative maintenance. Proven leadership skills that demonstrate the ability to manage and direct tenured management teams. Ability to manage both local and remote locations. Foster and maintain effective working relationships with vendors and employees of all levels and across various disciplines. As a leader, you are expected to have exceptional verbal and written communication skills. Strong planning, communication and interpersonal skills. Solid executive presence; engaging personality and the confidence to make decisions. Must embrace technology and innovation. COMPENSATION INFORMATION The expected salary range for this position is $100,000 - $150,000 annually. Placement within the range is dependant on a variety of factors including qualifications and experience.
