Junior/Intermediate Environmental ScientistWe have an immediate opportunity for a Junior/Intermediate Environmental Scientist or Engineer (Site Investigation, Remediation & Response) to join our Environmental Services team in British Columbia. As a key member of the team, you will gain knowledge and field experience on our Site Investigation, Remediation & Response team and support the larger Environmental Services team. This position is responsible for collecting detailed, reliable field data, working with intermediate and senior field staff, providing direction and supervision of contractors, and coordinating with project management to address client needs.ResponsibilitiesDeveloping site-specific health and safety plans and leading field programs to mitigate or eliminate risks to yourself, colleagues, subcontractors, clients, and the public.Participating in field implementation and/or reporting of Phase I, II, III ESAs, Stage 1 PSI and Stage 2 PSI/DSI investigations, risk assessment, and remediation projects for a range of sectors including provincial and federal agencies, ports and harbours, transportation, commercial, and industrial.Completing field work, including soil, soil vapour, sediment, groundwater, surface water, and biota sampling.Preparing high-quality, detailed field notes and meeting data quality objectives on every project.Supervising subcontractors, including utility locators, heavy equipment operators, drillers, and hydrovac operators.Safely executing ground disturbance activities such as borehole drilling, direct push investigations, and test pit and remedial excavations.Supporting applications under the BC Contaminated Sites Regulations for regulatory instruments including Approvals in Principal and Certificate of Compliance.Managing and interpreting field data and using specialized field equipment and software.Working with leadership to continually assess the direction of the practice through technical initiatives and collaborating across disciplines including Indoor Environments, Environmental Assessment, Geotechnical, Atmospheric Sciences, and Water Resources across Stantec Canada offices.Promoting a strong health and safety culture within the team and coordinating with project managers to develop scopes, budgets, and schedules.Organizing field programs, including subcontractor agreements, scheduling, and equipment resourcing.Capabilities and CredentialsPrevious experience within British Columbia is an asset.Strong teamwork skills and the ability to work alongside intermediate and senior office and field staff.Superior verbal and written communication skills.Keen interest in outdoor work and willingness to travel for assignments.Ability to work with sub-contractors and work independently.Demonstrated knowledge of provincial and federal environmental regulations and guidelines.Education and ExperienceA diploma from a technical college or university or a degree (Bachelor or Master) in Environmental Science, Geology, Hydrogeology, or Engineering.Minimum 3 years’ experience as an Environmental practitioner, with experience in contaminated sites investigation considered an asset.Possession of or eligibility for a professional designation (e.g., P.Eng., P.Geo., P.Ag., etc.) is considered an asset.Typical office environment with computer use and long periods of sedentary work; field work may involve exposure to the elements and lifting/moving items and equipment up to 50 lbs.This description is not a comprehensive listing of activities and duties and responsibilities may be changed at any time with or without notice.About StantecStantec is a global leader in sustainable engineering, architecture, and environmental consulting.
