Our client is seeking an Outage Mechanical Supervisor for a shutdown for a nuclear plant. Previous nuclear experience is non-negotiable. The Mechanical Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all mechanical maintenance, inspection, and repair activities during planned or forced outages at a nuclear power plant. This role ensures all work is executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with nuclear safety, quality, and environmental standards. The position involves full lifecycle involvement — from pre-outage planning and execution to post-outage review and reporting — providing leadership, technical expertise, and decision-making support to ensure successful outage completion. Duties and Responsibilities: Collaborate with planners and engineers to define, prioritize, and prepare mechanical work scopes for the outage. Plan and coordinate required manpower, tools, equipment, and materials for assigned tasks. Conduct preliminary safety and risk assessments to identify hazards and ensure mitigation measures are in place. Ensure all activities comply with nuclear safety, regulatory, and quality standards (IAEA and site-specific). Supervise and coordinate maintenance teams and contractors to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant execution. Act as the “gatekeeper” for scope changes, additions, or deletions, managing associated documentation and approvals. Monitor and track work progress against schedules, reporting deviations and corrective actions to management. Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues or delays during outage execution to maintain schedule integrity. Coordinate with QA/QC teams to ensure all work meets mechanical and nuclear quality standards. Conduct toolbox talks, daily briefings, and safety connects to reinforce safe work practices. Document maintenance and inspection results, ensuring accurate reporting and traceability. Participate in post-outage reviews, compiling performance reports and lessons learned for continuous improvement. Ensure all project documentation and close-out records are completed, verified, and archived appropriately. Qualifications & Experience: Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent technical qualification). Minimum 7–10 years’ experience in mechanical maintenance, shutdowns, or outages within nuclear, power generation, or heavy industrial facilities. Proven experience in a nuclear power plant or other high-safety regulated environment (essential). Strong knowledge of turbines, pumps, valves, piping, and heat exchangers. Experience in planning, executing, and closing out complex mechanical outage projects. Familiarity with nuclear safety culture, radiological protection, and QA/QC standards. Proficient in using CMMS systems such as SAP or Maximo (preferred). Valid certifications in HSE, Permit to Work, Lockout/Tagout, and Confined Space Entry (preferred). Skills and Competencies: Strong leadership and team management capabilities. Excellent planning, coordination, and problem-solving skills. High safety awareness and deep understanding of nuclear safety principles. Strong communication and stakeholder management skills. Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and P&IDs. Analytical mindset for identifying issues and implementing corrective actions. Proactive, disciplined, and able to perform under tight outage timelines.
