Project Manager - Underground Utilities

Key Information:
  • Must have at least 5 years as a Project Manager or equivalent experience.
  • Must have 3-5 years undergrounds experience.
  • Must have 3+ years of estimating or equivalent experience.
  • Hours: Based on a 44-hour work week; however, overtime is required during the busy season. Must be willing to work evenings and weekends when needed.
  • Hourly rate is dependent on experience. Health benefits and vacation pay offered.
Job Description:
  1. Schedule and chair construction planning and coordinate meetings.
  2. Plan the construction project to establish effective organization.
  3. Direct the overall construction program of the project.
  4. Provide leadership to promote maximum productivity.
  5. Maintain accountability for field costs and forecast costs to complete; and implement cost control procedures within the Project Execution Plan.
  6. Ensure a site safety program is developed and implemented to provide a safe working environment for the project construction force.
  7. Recommend the award of construction contracts based on the analysis of the estimating department.
  8. Negotiate contractual terms with the selected contractor(s); and administer contracts efficiently to maximize contractor performance and minimize exposure to claims and extras.
  9. Incorporate procedures so that required information (such as forecast costs and progress data) flows effectively within the project group, to senior company managers, and to our clients.
  10. Coordinate with municipal authorities as required for public relations, permits and construction interfaces.
  11. Develop a plan for turnover of the completed facility to operations and ensure that turnover is completed on schedule.
  12. Managing the liaison between project design engineering and the field.
  13. Ensure jobsite procedures and controls are implemented by all personnel.
  14. Review, with the accounting, all construction contractors' invoices for physical percent complete or units of work complete and approve as appropriate.
Experience and Certification Requirements:
  • 5 years of experience working as a Project Manager or equivalent is required.
  • 3-5 years undergrounds experience required.
  • Have a strong background of civil construction projects or equivalent is an asset.
  • Software is heavily used within the organization processes, the candidate must have strong computer skills and have a history of working within software programs such as: Primavera Contract, Microsoft Projects, Excel, and Proprietary Software.
  • Able to mentor Field Engineers and other team members.
  • Strong on contracts and contract negotiations.
  • Cost Controls experience is an asset.
  • Good people skills. Excellent analytical skills.
  • Travel is required - a valid driver's license with a clean driver's abstract is required and must be obtained no more than 30 days prior to employment start date. A reliable means of transportation is required.
  • Proficient English language skills required.
Education:

A diploma or degree in civil engineering or project management or equivalent is required.
