Sailing Director

The Bucklands Beach Yacht Club based in Half Moon Bay Auckland seeks a Sailing Director to lead the development and management of a top-tier Youth Training Programme utilising our Elliott 7 Fleet. This role entails both on-water coaching and program administration, as well as overseeing sailing events with our Elliott 7 Keelboats.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and execute a comprehensive performance sailing training program aligned with BBYC's objectives, covering technical, tactical, physical, and mental preparation, along with boat maintenance.
• Identify talented sailors from within BBYC and the local community, including school programs, and invite them to participate in BBYC Youth Training Programme squads.
• Collaborate with the Club Manager and Committee to deliver exceptional on and off-water coaching and administrative support for the BBYC Youth Training Programme.
• Manage all financial and administrative aspects of the Youth Training Programme, including budgeting and operational planning.
• Ensure all on-water assets are well maintained and fit for purpose, overseeing repair and maintenance.
• Implement relevant Health & Safety operating procedures.
• Provide insight into budgeting for equipment maintenance and replacement needs for the Elliott fleet.
• Manage current sponsors, ensuring they receive appropriate value and service.
• Identify and pursue new sponsorship and funding opportunities.

Experience and Skills:

• Proven coaching experience.
• Background in sailboat racing, preferably keelboat racing.
• Strong organisational and administrative skills.
• Effective communication skills with diverse stakeholders.
• Understanding of club dynamics with volunteers, staff, and members.
• Proficient in boat management and maintenance.
