About the role We are hiring a Senior Software Engineer to join our Vancouver-based development team. This is a hands‑on role for someone who thrives in backend development and system design, with deep experience in PHP (Laravel) and MySQL. You’ll play a critical role in designing scalable services, building robust APIs, and ensuring high system reliability. While this role is backend-focused, familiarity with Python, front‑end technologies like React or Next.js, and distributed systems is a bonus. Key Responsibilities Design and implement scalable backend services using PHP (Laravel) and MySQL Develop clean, well‑tested, and maintainable APIs Drive high‑level architectural decisions and contribute to system design discussions Containerize services using Docker and manage environments with Kubernetes Collaborate with front‑end engineers and product teams to deliver full‑feature solutions Conduct peer code reviews and mentor junior developers Troubleshoot, debug, and optimize backend performance and data flows Implement CI/CD pipelines and automated testing where appropriate Requirements 5+ years of professional experience in backend or full‑stack development Deep expertise in PHP (Laravel) and relational databases (MySQL) Proven experience designing scalable systems and API architecture Strong grasp of containerization tools like Docker; familiarity with Kubernetes is a plus Experience with version control, code reviews, and collaborative team workflows Bonus: Exposure to Redis, Kafka, RabbitMQ, or Elasticsearch Clear communicator who enjoys problem‑solving and working in a collaborative environment Why Join Roomvu?
