Civil Engineer (P.Eng.) & Project Manager Join to apply for the Civil Engineer (P.Eng.) & Project Manager role at M2 Engineering Position Overview As a Civil Engineer (P.Eng.) & Project Manager at M2 Engineering you will be responsible for various aspects of designing civil infrastructure associated with water and wastewater systems including but not limited to underground pipelines, forcemains, site utilities, site grading and ponds. In addition, you will be responsible for aspects of civil engineering design related to commercial buildings, such as site utility plans, and site grading plans. This position requires you to assist in the preparation of studies, pre-designs, and detailed designs as well as assist with construction activities. You will work side by side with our engineering team to troubleshoot problems and help find efficient and effective solutions for our clients. As a project manager, you will work with management and our clients to deliver successful projects. This position requires experience in the design of water and wastewater underground infrastructure and working with a multi-discipline project team. Wastewater infrastructure design tasks require a thorough understanding of wastewater collection systems, lift stations, wastewater forcemains, and lagoons. Water infrastructure design tasks require a thorough understanding of raw water storage ponds, pipelines, pump stations, and utility site servicing and site grading. Project management tasks require an understanding of client relationship management, progress reporting, invoicing, resource planning, scheduling, budgeting, forecasting, and more. Depending on the projects available, this position may require meetings out of the office, requiring driving to project meetings; it may also require field work, driving to project sites across Alberta, staying overnight in hotels, and being able to work 8-12 hours a day when required. ensure sub‑consultant agreements are in place for all projects Obtain director approval for all professional service proposals prior to signing and issuing any proposal Project Management Assist with multi‑discipline coordination Lead client coordination Assist with client relations and client management Assist with resource planning and forecasting Complete monthly invoicing cycles: review/approve time and expenses for projects, prepare monthly project reports, approve invoices Prepare project management plans that include a summary of project objectives, scope, deliverables, team, budget, and schedule Distribute project management plans to the project team, and update project management plans throughout the project as required Execute the project to meet schedule and budget Prepare earned value analysis (forecasted and actual) for projects Review status of project budgets and project schedules regularly Plan and execute project schedule and budget corrections as required Prepare professional service scope changes as required Collect, organize, and assemble engineering deliverables into a final deliverable format for clients Coordinate professional authentication of professional work products Studies & Reports Establish report/study outlines that meet the project deliverable requirements Collect background data on water/wastewater infrastructure and community requirements Collect and analyze data specific to project scope Analyze data on water/wastewater infrastructure Assess existing water/wastewater infrastructure Develop options to address project objectives Estimate costs for options to address project objectives Present project findings to clients Compile and edit written work from others into a single coherent document Design Design water infrastructure: raw water storage ponds, pipelines, and pump stations Design wastewater infrastructure: wastewater collections systems, lift stations, wastewater forcemains, and lagoons Design water/wastewater pipelines, considering land acquisitions, crossing agreements, environmental restrictions, wetland policies, and Alberta Environment and Parks requirements Design civil site utilities and site grading for facilities such as pump stations, water treatment plants, lift stations, lagoons, and wastewater treatment facilities Design civil site utilities and site grading for commercial building projects Coordinate with drafting team to develop detailed design drawings Coordinate multi‑discipline teams and sub‑consultants Develop engineering drawings and engineering details Develop front‑end contract specifications for procurement Develop technical specifications Procurement / Bidding Project manage the bid/tender process for construction projects Construction Management Project manage the bid/tender process for construction projects Review, understand and interpret construction contract documents, drawings, and specifications Complete construction management activities: reviewing budgets, schedules, shop drawings, RFI enquiries, contractor progress claims, material performance test reports, etc. Conduct field engineering inspections to review if construction work generally conforms to the project drawings and specifications Prepare monthly reports to document progress of construction activities, site issues, and potential design conflicts Provide proactive construction management services and attempt to anticipate design and construction conflicts in advance, working with all parties to propose solutions to resolve conflicts and issues Review if the contractor’s work conforms to quality assurance and quality control requirements of the construction contract Coordinate RFI responses, including receipt, review, and discussions with the multi‑discipline design team if required Coordinate progress of shop drawing reviews with administration and engineering staff Assist with the commissioning of water/wastewater infrastructure Mentorship Assist in mentoring junior staff with day‑to‑day activities, answering questions and providing best practice guidance Assist junior engineers with workflow and prioritization of tasks so that timelines and deliverables are met, and projects are completed within the budget Qualifications Candidate must hold a valid Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Engineering. Degree in Civil or Civil‑Environmental are mandatory. Minimum 5 years’ experience in consulting engineering, specifically in civil engineering area of practice. Candidates with less experience may be considered subject to specific experience and skillsets. Must be in good standing with APEGA as a registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.).
