The Head of Technology – Individual Insurance is responsible for leading the Individual Insurance team to achieve business outcomes aligned with our strategic goals. You will collaborate with business leaders to shape and deliver innovative technology solutions that transform experiences for clients, advisors, and operations. You’ll guide multidisciplinary teams working across core administration systems, digital platforms, and business applications, driving impactful change and enabling growth. Advocates for technology innovation while driving consistency, reusability, and optimization of common platforms across the enterprise. The role also has accountability for planning, leading, and implementing solutions that enhance mission‑critical business operations for a line of business. Position Title: Head of Technology - Individual Insurance Reports To: Executive Vice‑President, Chief Information Officer Department: IT Individual Insurance Term: Permanent Full‑Time Work Arrangements: This is a hybrid role. You will work in our office in Waterloo, ON a minimum of two (2) assigned, consecutive days every other week, plus a fifth (5th) assigned day per month. You are welcome to work from the office more than the minimum requirement and there may be some roles that are required to work in our office more than the minimum requirement. What you will be doing Provide leadership in technology strategy and execution of initiatives in collaboration with business and other cross‑functional teams Manage the portfolio of systems in terms of technology currency, business agility, technology evolution, business fit, opportunities to improve efficiencies and TCO Provide primary leadership in execution of digital modernization program for line of business Manage interdependencies between projects and prioritise based on business drivers and outcomes Drive technology change management and support business adoption of applications Accountable for managing technology budgets and expenses Establish and maintain relationships with external partners and technology suppliers Manage the business‑capability SLAs to IT SLAs with internal and external technology and service providers Accountable for multiple, technology development and support teams with multidisciplinary roles including direct reporting of technology platform owners, managers, and architects Lead and engage the team to deliver strategic objectives through effective coaching and mentoring, identifying and developing emerging talent, and fostering an innovative, collaborative, and agile culture What you will bring 15+ years of experience in leading technology teams and planning, prioritising and implementing initiatives consistent with business needs and expectations Experience in implementing technology solutions for large projects with solid understanding of digital frameworks, core administration systems, data platforms, cloud, and API management Adept at implementing modern technology practices and solutions, while keeping up with emerging technology trends and its long and short‑term implications on business Ability to develop technology roadmaps, execution plans, resource allocations, and business case Strong analytical, strategic thinking and communication skills with the ability to synthesize, develop and present clear and concise recommendations Strong leadership skills including change management, mentorship, motivation, coaching and development, and the ability to galvanise support Ability to communicate a compelling vision and inspire business teams to adopt and leverage innovative technology solutions Works exceptionally well in cross‑functional teams and is a champion of collaboration, with proven ability to influence business partners Strong capabilities in portfolio management and organisational effectiveness What’s in it for you A workplace where care, passion, and curiosity aren’t just values, they’re how we work, grow, and succeed together every day A healthy work‑life balance with employee wellness top of mind Annual bonus program, annual vacation allowance, and company‑paid benefits programme Generous vacation package with one volunteer day to give back to a charity of your choice Immediate enrolment in the company’s pension programme with employer matching Employee resource groups that support an inclusive work environment Tuition support and specialised programme assistance An onsite full‑service cafeteria with a variety of daily options Discounts on company products and services, and access to exclusive employee perks Regular EQ Together events focused on company togetherness and collaboration As part of the recruitment process, candidates may be asked to complete an assessment and will be required to undergo background screening, in accordance with company policy.
