A valid immunization record (measles, mumps, rubella, varicella, and TB skin tests 1 and 2) is required prior to onboarding.Job DescriptionWorking on assigned shifts, you will work 12‑hour shifts providing support to the Emergency department clinical team with regard to proactive identification of the potential for violence within the ED department. The Ambassador will serve as a resource within the department, specifically tasked with identifying early signs of agitation and intervening prior to escalation in an effort to reduce the likelihood of violence within the department.Duties & ResponsibilitiesContinually monitor and actively patrol the emergency department waiting areas and proactively engage patients (awaiting treatment), visitors and staff to develop a positive safety culture.Use supportive verbal techniques and engage staff resources to identify appropriate strategies aimed at de‑escalating potentially violent behavior.Develop relationships and maintain liaison with clinical and operational stakeholder groups (e.g., triage, admitting, nursing, social work, mental health, security and volunteers) for effective communication and consultation in developing support and intervention strategies.Act as principal contact for security services within the emergency department and liaise with emergency responders including law enforcement and emergency services when managing individuals who may pose a risk of violence.Make observations of obvious visual changes to the apparent health of those awaiting services and immediately identify any concerns to clinical staff.Conduct and document an hourly census of the number of persons in the waiting areas.Establish knowledge of support options and resources available (e.g., warm blankets, food & drink, transit passes, community support resources such as shelters) and liaise with staff to ensure appropriate applications.Develop relationships with regular patients and visitors; through consultation with stakeholders develop customized “Approach Plans” to safely manage patients and visitors who present a potential risk of violence.Ambassador is not intended to get directly involved in physical interventions unless required to preserve safety; engage site security and/or Code White team as needed.Participate in multi‑disciplinary stakeholder/team briefings/de‑briefings and provide input into patient behavior management planning.Skills & AbilitiesExercise sound judgment and effective interpersonal skills to manage hostile/aggressive/inappropriate behavior.Maintain an empathetic approach even in high‑stress and conflict situations.Working knowledge of applicable legislation and statutes such as the Criminal Code of Canada.Physical abilities to carry out duties of the position.PrerequisitesLegally authorized to work in Canada full‑time.Valid security license for the province of Ontario.Valid First Aid & CPR – Level C (from WSIB‑approved vendor).Proof of COVID‑19 vaccine (two doses).Immunization records for mumps, measles, rubella, varicella and two‑step TB skin test.Education or work experience in field of social service worker.Why Choose PaladinOpportunities for training and professional development.Work today, get paid today – daily pay available.Education RequirementsSocial Service Worker.Certification RequirementsUse of Force in Class Training; Management of Aggressive Behaviour (MOAB).Additional Information / BenefitsMedical InsuranceLife InsuranceDental InsuranceVision InsurancePaid VacationPaid Sick DaysPaid HolidaysPaladin Security is committed to providing accommodations for people with disabilities through the interview process and while employed.
