DUTIES:

The successful candidate will be engaged in resource development work to support the delivery of all courses included in year two of the Hydrogen Technician program. Duties and responsibilities will also include instructing students, facilitating learning and evaluating student progress by planning, organizing, and managing learning activities and resources in both classroom and shop settings. The instructor will:

  1. Incorporate their own teaching style with lesson plans by preparing and implementing various instructional strategies, techniques, and learning models to achieve specified learning outcomes and meet course objectives
  2. Establish student performance objectives and evaluation methods and meet with students regularly to gauge and evaluate progress and identify and resolve problem areas in teaching and learning
  3. Communicate effectively at a level appropriate to the ability of students and support an emotionally safe learning environment that is conducive to learning by maintaining appropriate classroom management following College policies and procedures
  4. Actively participate in professional development activities to remain current in your field and post-secondary education profession
  5. Actively participate in and contribute to accreditation activities to ensure the program is of the highest standard
  6. Be responsible for delivering theory and practical components of all courses outlined
  7. Perform other related duties consistent with maintaining quality learner-centered instruction
QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful candidate must:

  1. Demonstrate knowledge and experience in the Chemical or Petroleum Process Operations field
  2. Have an understanding of methods used to teach course concepts and classroom management
  3. Have effective communication, analytical, conflict resolution, and organizational skills
  4. Be able to work independently and as part of a collaborative team while establishing and maintaining effective working relationships in a teaching environment
  5. Demonstrate a strong commitment to student success strategies and initiatives

The required knowledge and skills would normally have been acquired through:

  • Completion of a Bachelor of Engineering Degree (Chemical, Petroleum, or Process) or equivalent degree supplemented with 2 years’ recent, relevant industry experience; or
  • Completion of a diploma in Chemical, Petroleum, or Process Engineering Technology supplemented with a Bachelor of Technology Degree or a Bachelor of Engineering Technology Degree with concentration in the subject area and 4 years’ recent, relevant industry experience

A Bachelor of Education Degree (Post-Secondary or Secondary), instructor training, experience teaching at the post-secondary level will be considered assets.

Professional Designation or eligibility for membership in a professional association will also be considered assets.

Additional assets may include: operator experience in a petroleum refinery environment, 4th Class Power Engineering certification, experience with hydrogen or ammonia production systems

SALARY:

Commensurate with qualifications and experience in accordance with College of the North Atlantic Faculty Collective Agreement.
