OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Vice President, Business Intelligence and Financial Reporting, the Director, Corporate Finance provides financial leadership and oversight for the Common Collection System (CCS), including governance, reporting, planning, controls, compliance, and stewardship.
The Director translates complex financial information into actionable insights that support strategic decision-making across the organization.
Success in this role requires strong financial expertise, leadership capability, and effective cross-functional collaboration.
This position requires residency in Ontario, Canada.
RESPONSIBILITIES
FINANCIAL ANALYSIS AND REPORTING
- Lead the Common Collection System’s financial strategy, budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning.
- Develop and maintain financial models to analyze revenue, cost structures, and reserves across the common collection system.
- Develop and maintain key performance indicators (KPIs) and financial metrics for internal reporting.
- Manage the preparation of assigned journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analyses to ensure the accuracy of financial data.
- Review accounting procedures and ensure compliance with internal policies and industry best practices.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulatory changes that may impact financial reporting and compliance.
- Provide in-depth financial analysis and variance reporting to senior management, highlighting key trends, financial performance, and deviations from budget.
- Oversee collection, allocation, reconciliation and settlement processes.
BUDGETING AND FORECASTING
- Lead the development of annual budgets, monthly forecasts, and financial projections.
- Monitor financial performance against budgets and forecasts, providing variance analysis and recommendations for corrective actions.
STRATEGIC FINANCIAL ANALYSIS
- Lead scenario planning and sensitivity analysis to evaluate the financial impact of different business strategies.
- Prepare ad-hoc financial reports and analysis to support business decisions, strategic initiatives, and financial planning.
PROCESS IMPROVEMENT AND SYSTEMS MANAGEMENT
- Implement and oversee the use of financial reporting systems, ensuring proper integration with ERP and accounting software (e.g., SAP, Datarails).
- Lead efforts to automate reporting processes and enhance financial reporting capabilities.
- Continuously evaluate and improve financial processes and reporting tools to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
CROSS FUNCTIONAL COLLABORATION AND LEADERSHIP
- Partner with senior leadership, operational teams, and department heads to ensure financial decisions are aligned with Circular Materials business strategies.
- Ensure timely and accurate communication of financial data, insights, and recommendations to relevant stakeholders.
- Serve as the organization’s financial and governance lead for the Common Collection System, representing Circular Materials in discussions with Producer Responsibility Organizations (PROs), service providers, auditors, regulators, and other industry stakeholders to resolve issues, influence outcomes, and ensure contractual and financial obligations are met.
- Foster a collaborative environment within the financial reporting team to encourage knowledge-sharing and continuous improvement.
- Manage assigned team members in completing work appropriate to team member’s job description and supporting the execution of responsibilities outlined within this job description.
- Additional ad-hoc tasks may be assigned as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
- CPA or other relevant certification is required.
- An equivalent combination of education, and experiences may be considered.
Experience
- 10+ years of progressive experience including 5+ years in senior leadership roles.
- 5+ years experience applying sound business and financial judgment to complex operational, contractual, and governance matters, balancing stakeholder interests while advancing organizational objectives. <
