Functional Fellow in Neurosurgery Closing date: 12 February 2026 Title of post: Functional Fellow Grade: ST7 and above Specialty: Neurosurgery Reason for vacancy: Post vacant Supervising consultant: Prof Alex Green, A/Prof James FitzGerald Educational supervisor: Prof Alex Green Full-time / Part-time: Full Time Base hospital: The West Wing, John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford Work pattern: To be agreed with supervising consultant Average number of hours per week: 48 hours On-call commitment: Two-tier Rota, on second tier Start date: August 2026 Main duties of the job Ward rounds, routine ward work and operating sessions Outpatient clinics Assessment of junior colleagues – familiar with ISCP process Contribute to specialist trainee assessment Occasional visits to peripheral outpatient clinics in the region Person specification Qualifications GMC Registration with licence to work FRCS (SN) or equivalent Higher Medical Degree/CCT Experience General training in Neurosurgery to specialist level or equivalent Interest in research with publications Skills & Knowledge Sufficient leadership, organisational, communication, professional and personal skills to undertake the role effectively Good personal and interpersonal skills Good spoken and written English – highly developed communication skills Knowledge of NHS organisation and Government agenda for modernisation Disclosure and Barring Service Check This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and requires a Disclosure and Barring Service check for any previous criminal convictions.
